You had been payed a decent advance and stood to gain even more on delivery of Miyotocorp's accounting books, and recently your pockets were largely free of nuyen, the reason why you had taken a job with an obvious red flag. This job payed a lot more than your typical "simple" run, leading you to believe there was more to it than met the eye, but ( Read more... )

Damn, I hate the city...a shaman like me should know better than this. Owl's going to give me a good talking-to for letting these yahoos get the jump on me. Well, luckily night is MY mistress, these ignorant tech-junkies are about to find out she can be a very jelous lover. Muttering a spell as I touch one of my talismans should summon me a nasty earth-elemental...those bullets they're so happily lobbing about should do them about as much good against that as jello lobbed at a troll. Should buy me enough time to finish downloading these files...then a quick invis spell (Damn technology...going to have to make it a light-bending spell, instead of the easy "your mind don't see me spell") and I'm outta here...

Running a quick detection routine to make sure there's no black ice bearing down on your address, you pull your attention from the matrix long enough to tug at the ether. Not enough time nor enough connection to the right element to call a rocky like you did last September in the Warren Right Memorial Garden, but it'll have to do. Too much attention away from the matrix and it could all come crashing down like a house of cards, the error detection routines calling down the black ice on your ass and leaving you so much chum on the floor, your brains running out your ears. Turning back to your deck, you can hear the confusion you unleashed for a few moments before you hit the zone again...

I draw my Desert Eagle .44 and shout out "Vault City prevails" as I unload a clip gangsta style into the Human Battering Ram.

While normally, standing up into submachinegun fire would be a foolish thing to do, you know your partner well. You listen as her spell finishes and her fingers re-start their stacatto ballet on her deck, her eyes glazing over as she lets the matrix take her full attention again. Knowing her distraction will be a good one, you wait for the desk to stop shaking from the gunfire, then twirl around the side of the desk, your Desert Eagle's grip heavy and comforting in your grip, your arms poised to take careful aim and absorb the joint-loosening recoil ( ... )
