How could "feelings of depression" possibly be a risk factor for depression in the first place? Aren't "feelings of depression" a SYMPTOM of depression? (And a pretty tautological one at that?)

That was pretty much my reaction.

I suspect that, from an insurance perspective, someone who reports feelings of depression is thus at risk for then being diagnosed with depression and then requiring coverage.
