Human Target

A few thoughts on the latest episodes of Human Target.
Alright, so Problem Like Maria was a great episode. There's action, betrayal, the well-written friction between Ilsa and Team Chance, and a nice nod to Casablanca. C'mon, airport farewell and confession-of-love scene between a rough man and his now-married former lover? You can't tell me you weren't thinking it. Oh, and the friction between Ilsa and Chance finally comes to head.

And then we got to Communication Breakdown. Kind of a let down. Both plots were kind of "meh". Chance running through the jungle with Ilsa while Team Chance defends themselves from Armenian mobster back home. It's not that these were bad plots, but running them simultaneously left both underdeveloped. But there have been other undeveloped plotlines before. It pales in comparison to the second season premiere completely wasting the plot that the first season had built up.

The thing that really bothered me though was the not-so-subtle hinting towards a possible Ilsa/Chance romance. Really? I mean, I'm all for feuding romances (Daniel/Vala from SG-1 remains of the most entertaining relationship I've seen on TV), but I just don't see it. First, the Christmas episode made it pretty clear that Ilsa's still reeling with the death of her husband. Second, Ilsa plays her cards pretty close to her chest, but this just seemed out of the blue. I haven't seen any signs so far, and I hate for things to show up smack out of the blue. Third, I'd hate for such an awesome character like Ilsa to be turned into nothing more than just a love interest. I don't see it ending up well for the character.

But, the writers saved it with an awesome ending. Ilsa's now a little more understanding of Team Chance's world, but she manages to be human and all ass-kickery at the same time. Just a good way to end things.
