Uh, kinda. It's not just wiretapping; it's a civil right that helps ensure that people don't just "disappear" in permanent detainment because of their government. There's a bit of a difference in severity. And as far as I can tell, it's been done away with permanently for aliens, not just suspended, but I may have read that wrong.
Not to mention, I don't think really anything has happened terrorism-wise to warrant this. You'd think we'd be scaling back on this kind of behavior by now.
The Bush administration has been on a campaign against rights - for american citizens and everyone else. Their ideal government is an absolute one.
That this has been done in the name of terrorist prevention is also not shocking, as every infringement on civil rights in the last five years has.
That Americans are taking this lying down is also not shocking, since a) we're the most technologically anesthetized nation in the world and b) Americans have been so often targets of fear and coercion campaigns that it's amazing that the bush administration is only taking one right at a time.
it gives the executive branch the power to deny anyone, not just aliens and terrorists, the right to a trial by jury. so if he wanted to, he could say, rebecca committed treason, kill her. and he would be legally permitted to do so...and you would be dead.. but it's legal. if you're interested in this, check out this video...puts things into perspective... see ya at home...
