"To change how we power our homes and offices, we will invest more in zero-emission, coal-fired plants; revolutionary solar and wind technologies; and clean, safe nuclear energy." - President Bush

Actually, nuclear energy is a rather safe and clean energy alternative, especially to regions that may not have access to solar/wind power. The Chernobyl RBMK-style reactor is the only nuclear reactor in the world to sport a very large positive void and power coefficent, causing the fuel to be incredibly unstable, and actually an increase in reactor power would result in an increase in reaction rates. The RBMK would also recycle uranium, which isn't the best idea either.
In short, RBMK was a big mistake. Theres only 9 left in the world, all in the former CIS. Three Mile Island was a human error, and an architectual error (no pump valve overflow). Otherwise, nuclear power is rather safe, and utilized extensively in the EU (especially France!) as a clean energy alternative.
well... the thing is (going back to a project i did a couple years back) if memory serves me right, even a 'safe' nuclear plant still can only function for so long. and the waste products of the process still have to go somewhere - which is usually underground, and that can create all kinds of problems. of course, it's not a huge problem everywhere, but isn't like 70% of french energy derived from nuclear power? because as i rememeber that was a problem since they will have to build new plants soon and they don't know what to do with the old ones.
Centaurs? Mermaids? Come now, my friends! Haven't you heard of the... MINOTAUR?! Now, there's a perfect and beautiful hybrid. Definitely worth putting some serious thought into, right? Who's with me?!

Yay for Wikipedia!
Also, isnt 'zero-emission coal-fired plant' kinda oxymoronic?
