I read today that the ratio of hours of preparation to hours of instruction is at least 2:1--if you know your subject very well and do not plan to do anything too creative or technology-based--but could be as high as 8:1. I understand your point and agree mostly. I, however feel that certain of my teachers such as my high school chemistry teacher, were walking cake. Woman was rarely in class and I learned nothing from her. Ditto my US history teacher except he was there but didn't instruct on anything--and I mean anything. Not one bit of teaching. We sat reading the book every day.

But, yeah, teachers should be making the mega bucks not entertainers and celebs. Most teachers work like dogs and are treated like them.

America is such a fucking hypocritical paradox. We're told that hard work and honor will be rewarded. In speech, we blow out hot air about idealistic views of how dedicated service to other people is highly regarded. And I have to say, that I believe that a lot of people do value that kind of work. They can see how much it contributes to the greater good and they applaud it. Regardless, money and power moves this nation. It seems that if you don't want to be a big shark ... if you just want your own little corner of the universe to live in, you have to be comfortable with making just enough money to pay your bills, with very minimal recreation. Because of the way this econmony/republic works, many people end up angry and tired. Angry because they feel cheated and underappreciated; tired because occupational burnout ( ... )
