Burnished Copper Nudes on Doors: A Not-So-Still Life

I may be the first person on the face of the earth who passed out AND threw up at closing, but hey, I like to be a pioneer. I didn't get any on the legal documents or my attorney's Armani suit jacket either.

Anyway, It's mine now, and I didn't have to ask anyone's permission to paint the walls. I went to Home Depot, and I told them what color of paint I wanted. I am NOT a neutral gal, so all you former landlords out there, take this Burnished Copper! Take this Paddle blue! Take this Raisin! This Merlot! This Celery! This Pine Needle! Tawny Bluff! Avocado! Java!

First, my study: This will be my adobe room ... adobe colored walls, with the closet painted the bright blue of adobe house doors in Santa Fe (brown earth and blue sky, I've been told) and I'm building a computer desk area in the closet alcove. I'm cutting the ends of fat branches off and nailing them up to create the illusion of the adobe being built on logs.

I don't want the closet doors or the French style doors leading into the study, and so I took them down. Four doors in all. I've been eyeing this project that uses four doors to build one of those bench/coat rack things you see in the entry ways of people's houses a lot. I can't afford furniture, and so I thought maybe I could find some old doors to use. When I took these four doors down, my first thought was how it would be so nice to be able to use those four doors. And then it dawned on me: these are my doors! These are MY doors! THESE ARE MY DOORS! By God, I can cut them up if I want to. (Next project ... making end tables out of my laundry room shelves!)

I forgot to take painting clothes with me when I was there on Monday night, and so guess what? I painted in the nude. Not that I could never paint in the nude in a rental house ... I just could never paint BURNISHED COPPER in the nude! I mean where's the thrill of painting Brushed Linen, Antique Ivory, Pale Silk, or Milk Sugar in the nude? I know! It's just not the same.
