Thank you so much for reading! I really am glad that you feel the same way. I can't believe how narrow minded people are being. It's very good to know that not everyone is an ignorant jerk!
thanks for posting this.. i feel uneasy about the media furore about the photos, I thought Rudd's comments were over the top, as well.. like you, i don't -think- i'm offended by them.. but i'm not sure.
I find it really odd that this is a major news story, but I seem to be the only person who's uncomfortable with the Marc Jacobs ads I see whenever I pick up a women's magazine. I guess people still see 'art' more suspiciously than they do advertising.
I got so angry when Rudd started calling them "revolting" and declaring that they have no artistic merit. By going about it like that, he has just made himself look like a uncultured, narrow minded fool. I definitely understand that he would have to say something, but it really felt like he was just throwing a few buzz words around to keep the general (dumbass) public happy. A simple statement like "I understand that this wasn't the intention of the artist, but we have to lead by example in this situation." would have been fine. Trashing someone's work does not put him above it. In fact, it probably puts him below, because now we all know that he hasn't even bothered to understand art, and art is a bloody important, albeit underappreciated part of Australian culture. We have WAY too much focus on sport in this country
