it grates on my ears when people talk about "discovering" a computational method. You can formulate it, develop it, extend it, but you don't discover it like you would an actual fact about the world. That is all.

Debatable. Some computational artifacts can be reasonably claimed to be fundamental facts about what the world can compute.

But yea, the more narrow the scope of said computational method, the more dubious the use of the word "discover" is, in my book.
