1... that's the beautiful humor in it, ya.
2... i don't know how the cure got such a bad reputation for being depressing. seriously, it's just well-crafted pop music. listen to "lovecats" and look up the lyrics for "doing the unstuck" -- they're about as upbeat a quartet you can find this side of A*Teens.
