So for everyone complaining about how dark and moody the trailer for the new Titans series is, do y'all remember The Judas Contract (generally considered the apotheosis of silver age Titans stories)? Most of the early conflicts derived from relationship problems - Trigon, Blackstar, Victor's parents, Mento & the Doom Patrol, who is Donna Troy - even Deathstroke only came into the story to clean up his son's unfinished business.
Then there was Raven & Wally, Gar & Tara & Slade, Dick & Kory (can you get more soap opera than her political marriage keeping them apart?)
And thru it all, the friendship & love of their found family proved stronger than the traumas of their upbringing.
While they may have been moody & angsty, they weren't grim or gritty.
