Summary:
Not everything is as it seems, and for those who are as far from normal as you can get, life is a bleak existence. The only ones who can truly understand what these individuals go through are those...just like them.
A/N: YoungSaeng and HyunJoong are played by
renichifreak and KyuJong and JungMin are played by me. Sorry for the long wait!!! Life has been...all over the place >.<;; University is starting, so updates are moving to Mondays now! Because I obviously can't remember by the time Wednesday arrives >.>;;;; (Someone remind me if I don't post anything next Monday!!)
It was near the end of the day, and KyuJong was still nowhere to be found. That was strange enough for a normal day, but it was the weekend, and despite the large amount of studying that had to be done with the exams starting next week, it had been a given he and YoungSaeng would be joined at the hip as usual.
He had been disappearing for short amounts of time over the past few weeks, each time with a different excuse, and quick to distract his boyfriend from any questions. If the others knew where he was, they weren't saying anything.
This was the longest he'd been missing though, and instead JungMin, HyunJoong and HyungJoon kept YoungSaeng company, piling into his room for a joint study session. The girls were also missing today.
"I don't get this!" JungMin whined, pushing the book away and flopping onto his stomach with a pout. "Now I remember why I said I'd never go back to school again."
YoungSaeng sighed as he idly flipped through his textbook, drawing small doodles in the notebook that he was taking notes in. It had been awhile since he had last seen KyuJong, the boy disappearing shortly after classes ended: something that he had been doing frequently and without warning. He didn't understand if he had maybe done something wrong, but he only seemed to see KyuJong before class and before bed. There was a rare moment when they would do something together, but the last few days had been especially bad.
He did appreciate JungMin, HyunJoong, and HyungJoon visiting and bringing him out to do things, but it wasn't quite the same.
Looking up at JungMin, YoungSaeng had to laugh. "It's not as bad as you're making it out to be," he said as HyunJoong moved to massage his shoulders, all the while lightly picking on him for his random bouts of divaness, as he liked to put it.
JungMin elbowed HyunJoong in the stomach for the snide comment. "If you understand it, then why aren't you helping me," the redhead huffed, crawling over to YoungSaeng and spreading out on the bed next to him. "All these horrible people are doing is laughing at me."
"It's too much fun though," HyungJoon grinned from his spot on the floor, where he had deemed himself safe from the overly frustrated JungMin.
"Because it's too much fun watching you squirm," HyunJoong answered for YoungSaeng, drawing out a laugh from the younger.
Nodding his head, YoungSaeng smiled at the redhead and proceeded to explain the problem; no matter how distracted he was by his absent lover.
JungMin pursed his lips in a pout, leaning over to see how YoungSaeng was explaining the problem.
As they were doing that, HyungJoon's phone buzzed slightly and the youngest pulled it out, flicking it open. After a moment his lips curled into a wide smile, glancing up at the others while he slipped his phone away. JungMin glanced up at him from under his bangs, quickly redirecting his attention to the book.
YoungSaeng was finishing the explanation when the youngest stood up, stretching. "The words are swimming all over the page. Let's take a break and walk around? If I try studying anymore, I'm gonna fall asleep," he laughed.
Blinking up at JungMin, YoungSaeng found himself nodding his head. "Okay, and where do you want to go?" he asked, head tilted.
HyunJoong chuckled. "As if he ever knows. We usually just wander aimlessly until we either get lost and have to ask for help, or find something fun."
"It's fun that way," JungMin pouted, going over to the door. "Let's do a tour of the school, it's spooky at night."
HyungJoon whined in protest, but got up to get his shoes as well.
YoungSaeng snorted at the youngest's reaction. "Suck it up, HyungJoon. Try having my power for an hour. Wandering around with JungMin and HyunJoong trying to scare you is a walk in the park," he teased as he got to his feet and padded over to the door, slipping into his shoes.
Looking at the alarm clock, he sighed at how late it was getting. Yet another day without KyuJong there.
Forcing a smile onto his face, YoungSaeng nudged JungMin. "What're we waiting for?"
"Nothing, let's go!" JungMin chirped, heading out into the hallway and dragging HyunJoong along with him. Out of YoungSaeng's line of sight, the redhead exchanged a look with his boyfriend.
"No thanks, my own power gives me enough headaches," HyungJoon sniffed, walking along beside YoungSaeng. "I got a vision in the middle of class while the teacher was asking me a question and she gave me detention for 'ignoring' her, how horrible is that?" he complained.
Chuckling, YoungSaeng held up a hand to HyungJoon. "Two words: mental. Institution," he stated, holding up two fingers. "I'll take detention any day."
"That doesn't make detention any more fun," HyungJoon sulked, kicking at a rock as they stepped out of the dorm building and headed towards the main building. JungMin was tapping something into his phone up ahead, closing it after a moment and tugging on HyunJoong's arm when he deemed the older boy wasn't walking fast enough for him.
Nearly faceplanting at being pulled along, HyunJoong quickly readjusted the hold, lacing their fingers together. "Can you try not to kill me, Min? I'd greatly appreciate it."
It had been getting far easier to hold back JungMin's power thanks to the amount of practice he had been getting. A few of the others let him practice on them, Nicole even letting him try the unlocking half since she by far had the best control over her power.
JungMin calmed a little at the grip on his hand, his gloves in his hoodie pocket just in case. "Fine fine," he grinned, walking along beside him.
They headed back into the main school building, HyungJoon practically gluing himself to YoungSaeng's side. "It's so dark," he wailed as they walked.
"Such a wimp, Joonie," HyunJoong chuckled, amused by the put-off expression on YoungSaeng's face as HyungJoon attached himself to his side.
"I'm sorry if I like being able to see where I'm going," HyungJoon sniffled, sticking to YoungSaeng. "Wait, what was that sound?!"
"Ghosts," JungMin said flatly, and snickered when HyungJoon nearly tripped YoungSaeng in his haste to get behind him. "It was the heaters turning on, you twit."
At JungMin's comment, YoungSaeng and HyunJoong cracked up, HyunJoong leaning against his boyfriend and YoungSaeng reaching up to ruffle HyungJoon's hair. "If there were ghosts here, my eyes would be black, remember? I still can't stop it from activating when they show up," he reminded him.
"I can't see anything, including your eyes," HyungJoon pouted, holding on to YoungSaeng's sleeve and looking pitiful.
JungMin pulled HyunJoong to keep on walking. It looked like they were wandering aimlessly, JungMin nudging HyunJoong with his hip to steer him down different hallways and poking through rooms they went by.
"Oh, do you think the music room is unlocked?" JungMin asked, looking back at YoungSaeng. "Hyun wanted to practice with the guitar in there."
Rolling his eyes affectionately, YoungSaeng gave up and let HyungJoon cling to him as they walked. At JungMin's question, however, he stopped. "It's always unlocked," YoungSaeng replied.
"Great!" JungMin grinned. "Lead the way~, it is dark, unless you want me to act as a light bulb or something." He dragged HyunJoong behind YoungSaeng and HyungJoon instead, both arms wrapped securely around the older boy's waist.
Leaning back into the hold, HyunJoong watched the two in amusement, HyungJoon's clinging nearly sending YoungSaeng to the floor a few times.
It took a while, but having been there so many times, YoungSaeng finally got them to the music room in one piece, no thanks to HyungJoon.
Grinning, JungMin slowed down as they approached the door, pulling HyunJoong back and away. HyungJoon had adjusted his grip on YoungSaeng's arm, clinging more to the back of his shirt instead. As YoungSaeng opened the door and stepped in to open the light, HyungJoon let go of him, backing up quickly.
The lights flickered on to an open piano, a wrapped bouquet of roses sitting on top. KyuJong blinked a little at the light, before smiling at YoungSaeng from where he sat on the edge of the piano bench, a small wrapped box in his hands.
Feeling HyungJoon let him go, YoungSaeng turned back to the three before looking into the room, breath catching at the sight. Taking a hesitant step inside, he took in the roses - he was pleasantly surprised to see them white rather than red - on the piano just behind KyuJong, who was sitting on the bench, playing with a small wrapped box.
"Kyu? What's going on?" he asked quietly, widened eyes on his lover.
KyuJong's smile widened, and he nodded in thanks to the three out in the hallway, who quickly made themselves scarce, HyungJoon closing the door behind YoungSaeng.
"I'm sorry I was gone the whole day," KyuJong apologized, getting up and walking to him. He took YoungSaeng's hand gently with his free one, bringing him further into the room. "I wanted to do something special for today, and it took a little arranging."
Letting KyuJong lead him into the room by the hand, YoungSaeng was still a bit caught off, not quite understanding what was going on.
"Today?" he asked, head tilted to the side in confusion.
KyuJong put the box down on the bench for the moment, taking both of YoungSaeng's hands with a gentle smile. "You don't know what today is?"
The older boy squeezed YoungSaeng's hands lightly. "Six months ago, in this room, I asked you if you would be my boyfriend." His smile was bright. "And you said yes."
Blinking, YoungSaeng eyes grew in understanding. "Six months...it's been that long? It feels like just yesterday to me," he murmured quietly. "I'm sorry that I forgot, Love. Dates aren't something I'm very good with," he admitted. When he was in the hospital, the days all blended together and still did more often than not.
"So...you did this for me?" he asked quietly, looking around again while squeezing the hands holding his own.
"It's okay. It made it easier to surprise you," KyuJong chuckled, watching YoungSaeng's expression. "I know six months isn't something that's as often celebrated, not like a year, but I still wanted to do something. Here, sit down." He brought YoungSaeng back to the bench, picking up the small box so they could sit down.
"I have something for you," KyuJong leaned over to kiss the corner of YoungSaeng's mouth, before turning the younger boy's hands palm up and placing the box in his hands.
Taking a seat on the piano bench, YoungSaeng gently ran fingers over the bouquet before his attention was drawn to KyuJong, who had taken his hands and placed the small box there.
It was light, he discovered before gently shaking it from side to side, not wanting to break anything. It had been years since he had even received a birthday present, so he was more-or-less stunned.
With a final look at KyuJong, a hint of excitement and curiosity in his eyes, YoungSaeng slowly began to unwrap the present. It took a bit since KyuJong seemed to enjoy using tape, but once he had it unwrapped, YoungSaeng set the paper aside before carefully opening the lid of the tiny black box.
He was unable to stop the gasp from escaping when he saw the necklace. The half heart stood out against the black satin within the box as he shifted it to one hand and ran a finger over it reverently.
KyuJong was more focused on YoungSaeng's expression than the gift, watching with a gentle smile as the different emotions flickered through his boyfriend's face. The amazement when he saw the half-heart made KyuJong's smile widen, running one hand slowly up and down YoungSaeng's leg as he watched.
After YoungSaeng had a moment to look at it, KyuJong squeezed the other boy's knee questioningly. "Would you like it on?" he offered softly.
Jumping slightly at the quiet voice, YoungSaeng looked up at KyuJong, eyes glassy, before he smiled and nodded his head. It took a moment for YoungSaeng to be able to part with it, but he finally handed the box over to KyuJong and turned around, gathering up his hair and lifting it off of his neck to make it easier.
Smile widening, KyuJong fished the necklace out of the box and placed the box down on the top of the piano. He scooted a little closer and lowered the necklace around YoungSaeng's neck. Clasping the ends together, he laid it down against YoungSaeng's skin, running a finger along the chain before lowering his hands. "There you go."
Shivering slightly at the finger that ran over the chain - and therefore his neck - YoungSaeng let his hair fall into place before turning around and wrapping his arms around him tightly, burying his face in the boy's neck. "Thank you, Kyu..." he murmured, feeling the tears fighting to fall.
KyuJong wrapped his arms around YoungSaeng in return, resting his face against the headful of hair and breathing in slowly. "No, thank you," he whispered softly, kissing the side of YoungSaeng's head and rubbing slow circles around his back. He chuckled, keeping the younger boy close. "Happy anniversary," he murmured to him.
Sniffing slightly, YoungSaeng smiled against his neck. "Happy anniversary, even though I didn't get you anything..." he replied quietly, light chuckle in his voice.
"You already gave me more than I can ever thank you for," KyuJong smiled, kissing YoungSaeng's temple and running a hand through his hair. "Here, I want to show you something." He leaned forward slightly so he could nudge YoungSaeng up into a sitting position. Once the younger boy wasn't leaning on him anymore, he smiled at him before reaching under the collar of his own shirt to pull on a thin chain.
KyuJong pulled out the necklace hidden under his shirt, a chain bearing the missing half to the heart on YoungSaeng's necklace. The edge was cut almost like a puzzle piece, one that would fit perfectly with YoungSaeng's necklace.
Blinking as he was nudged, YoungSaeng straightened a bit and watched closely as KyuJong pulled something out from beneath his shirt. His eyes grew wide as he saw a similar necklace to the one he had been given. The only real difference was that KyuJong's was simple silver-plated while his was diamond-encrusted.
Reaching out slowly, YoungSaeng took both his half and the half KyuJong was wearing in his hands. Leaning close, he watched in awe as the two fit perfectly together.
Holding them like that for a minute, YoungSaeng gently let the two halves fall before he leaned in again to kiss his lover. "I didn't think it possible to love you any more..." he murmured against his lips.
Chuckling softly against YoungSaeng's lips, KyuJong kissed him back, wrapping his arms loosely around YoungSaeng's waist and holding him close. "Glad you like it," he whispered back, kissing him again, deeper this time. The best part was watching the emotions in YoungSaeng's eyes, seeing the deep love there.
He just held YoungSaeng against him, enjoying the feeling of his boyfriend in his arms, and thinking about how far they'd come since that first shy kiss six months ago.
Turning to rest his cheek on KyuJong's shoulder now, YoungSaeng found himself smiling softly as he ran fingers lightly over KyuJong's back just beneath the shirt, loving the feeling of the warm skin.
"I don't think that you could have chosen a more perfect place," he mused before chuckling. "And how did you know about the white roses? I don't remember telling you that I liked them."
"We can call it an educated guess," KyuJong chuckled softly, resting his head against YoungSaeng's as he looked up at the bouquet. "I saw you looking at them when we were passing by a small flower shop at the mall." He closed his eyes. "I'm sorry I left you alone the whole day."
"You're good," YoungSaeng replied. "People would think I wouldn't like white after being in there. Like JungMin, he loves bright and vibrant colors, but red roses are just so...I don't even know."
Pausing at the apology, YoungSaeng shook his head slightly. "It's okay, but you had me a bit scared, I'm not gonna lie. I thought you may have been mad at me for something and were avoiding me."
KyuJong smiled and shook his head as well. "I'm not mad at you," he whispered, caressing his cheek lightly. "Even if I was mad for something, we'd work it out, I wouldn't avoid you." He trailed his finger along YoungSaeng's jaw. "I just wanted to get everything set up, and didn't think I'd be able to stay quiet if I hung around for the whole day," he chuckled sheepishly. "Nor HaRa and Nicole once I told them what was going on, so I made them stay away too, sorry."
YoungSaeng rolled his eyes at the comment about the girls. "So tell me; how did you manage to get JungMin to keep quiet?" he asked with a chuckle.
"I told him that if he helped distract you today, he and HyunJoong would have all tomorrow to themselves without interruptions," KyuJong smiled. "It seemed to be the most effective plan."
YoungSaeng had to laugh at that. "Effective, but so was when they barricaded themselves in their room for four hours the other day," YoungSaeng pointed out.
"That was effective, but I'm sure HyungJoon continuously knocking to make sure they were still alive spoiled the mood somewhat," KyuJong chuckled, kissing YoungSaeng's forehead.
"You have a point there," YoungSaeng replied before shifting his position until he was seated properly on the piano bench. Running his fingers lightly over the keys, he slowly began playing something that he had been working on. Originally, he had wanted to write it for the upcoming talent show, but there was something missing from it.
Wrapping his arm loosely around YoungSaeng's waist while careful not to limit his reach, KyuJong listened to the song that began to play. A smile curled his lips as he enjoyed the beautiful music, thumb slowly stroking along YoungSaeng's side. This was a new song, one he didn't recognize. He had such a talented boyfriend.
Seeing the smile out of the corner of his eye, YoungSaeng returned it with one of his own. "I wanted to perform this for the talent show," he explained. "I wanted to, but there's something off about it and I can't for the life of me figure out what it is."
KyuJong tilted his head slightly in confusion. "The notes sounded fantastic to me. There was nothing awkward about it at all. Maybe run through it a few times?" He continued to listen, finding the rhythm and humming softly.
"It's not the composition. It just doesn't sound right when I sing it," YoungSaeng tried to explain, relaxing when KyuJong began humming along.
"Try singing it?" KyuJong asked, rubbing his side slowly. "We'll see what sounds off, maybe I can help." Though he didn't know much about composing compared to YoungSaeng.
Nodding his head, YoungSaeng paused before playing the piece from the beginning, this time adding his vocals as well. As he sang, YoungSaeng continued to feel that there was something missing. It just didn't feel complete.
KyuJong tilted his head as he listened, wondering what YoungSaeng thought was missing. He couldn't hear anything. It was a beautiful song. Humming along softly, he listened to the words and tried to remember them.
By the last chorus, he had that part figured out, the gentle humming shifting into quiet words as he tried singing along, wondering if he would notice something missing.
YoungSaeng started when he heard KyuJong's voice sing along, letting his fingers still. That had been a bit more right.
Getting an idea, YoungSaeng smiled widely and kissed KyuJong. "I think you just solved my problem, love," he said happily.
Blinking at the sudden stop to the song, KyuJong looked up at YoungSaeng in time for the kiss. "Uh?" He blinked in confusion. "What did I do?" He kissed YoungSaeng back though, hugging him close.
Leaning into the hold, YoungSaeng continued to smile. "It wasn't made for me to sing alone," he replied. It was surprising since every song he had ever written was designed to be sung as a solo. He had never once considered harmony before.
KyuJong blinked at him before smiling widely. "Glad I can help. A duet? Or more people?" He could see that spark of an idea in YoungSaeng's eyes, inspiration. It was amazing to watch.
Thinking, YoungSaeng turned back to the piano and began to play again. His high vocals. KyuJong's mid range. Perhaps a couple low level...and another to ground their voices.
Looking over at KyuJong, his smile was nearly blinding at this point, excited about the ideas flooding through him.
"I'm thinking five part harmony."
"Five parts?" KyuJong blinked. That was a lot. But YoungSaeng's grin was contagious, and he found himself wondering what it would sound like. "Any ideas for the singers?" He tucked a strand of hair behind YoungSaeng's ear, watching the look in his eyes.
"I wonder if HyunJoong, HyungJoon, and JungMin can sing," YoungSaeng mused, smiling as KyuJong brushed his hair behind his ear. "I think I remember JungMin being able to, at least..."
"We'll have to ask them," KyuJong grinned, hugging YoungSaeng close. "And get lots of practice in." The talent show was just in a couple weeks.
"It would be a good break from our usual practice," YoungSaeng replied before pushing away from the piano a bit and turning into KyuJong's arms. "Though enough about the others. I do believe that today is about us, or what's left of it at the very least," he teased lightly before leaning forward and kissing the other boy, one arm on his leg and the other running through his hair.
Eyes softening, KyuJong smiled into the kiss and returned it happily. One arm remained settled around the younger boy's waist, holding him close, the other cupping YoungSaeng's jaw as he tilted his head to deepen the kiss. "Today, tonight, and every minute we're together," he whispered into YoungSaeng's mouth.
Deciding that words were overrated at the moment, YoungSaeng just parted his lips to allow for a deeper kiss. KyuJong's words had sent a rush of warmth through him, nearly as much as when the elder would tell him that he loved him.
KyuJong dove into the deepened kiss, tongue dancing slowly with YoungSaeng's. He hoped he could communicate just how much he loved his younger boyfriend, never wanting moments like this to end. It was a little awkward sitting on the piano bench, but they made it work, KyuJong's hand running up and down YoungSaeng's side just under the edge of his shirt.
Soft sounds fell from YoungSaeng's lips as KyuJong's hand ran over his skin softly. One of his own moved to his thigh as the other tangled itself in KyuJong's hair.
KyuJong shivered at the hand against his thigh, a low noise in the back of his throat audible. After a long heated kiss he shifted position slightly to swing one long leg over the bench and straddle it, able to pull YoungSaeng closer that way, almost in his lap. He brought his lips back to YoungSaeng's to continue the kiss, nipping gently on his plush lips.
Parting for breath, YoungSaeng pressed closer, craving the contact. "We're going to have to go back to the room very soon, Kyu," he murmured, voice and eyes suggestive before he returned to KyuJong's lips.
"Mhm..." KyuJong hummed in agreement. The music room probably wasn't the best place for what he had in mind. "But I don't want to move," he whispered against YoungSaeng's mouth as his hand slid around to splay his fingers across YoungSaeng's stomach, caressing lightly.
"M-Me neither," YoungSaeng murmured, shifting into the hand resting against his stomach. He was perfectly content to stay there all day, but his body seemed to have other plans.
Kissing the younger boy's lips over and over, KyuJong finally pulled back slightly, drawing in a breath. "Room, before I start taking off your clothes right here." Stealing one last kiss, he got up off the bench, closing the piano cover.
Following KyuJong to his feet, YoungSaeng remained close, running a finger down his chest. "I wouldn't complain, but I'm sure we'd be more comfortable in the room," he murmured, leaning forward and placing kisses along KyuJong's neck.
A low groan left KyuJong's lips at the kisses, head falling to one side as his hands found YoungSaeng's waist, fingers curling into his shirt as he pulled his boyfriend flush against his body. "I-If you keep tempting me like this, it won't matter if we'll be more comfortable there."
YoungSaeng chuckled lightly before easing up a bit, but not completely. "Charmer," he teased.
A shaky sigh left KyuJong's lips as he opened his eyes to look down at him. "I can't help it if I'm a little impatient, you're making me impatient." Smiling, he reached over to pick up the bouquet of white roses and slipping it into YoungSaeng's hands as he kissed his boyfriend's jaw. "I believe this is yours."
Taking the roses, YoungSaeng hugged them close to his chest, closing his eyes and inhaling the aroma. "You really are sweet, Kyu yah," he told him with a smile.
Smile widening, KyuJong leaned over and kissed the corner of YoungSaeng's mouth. "Come on, let's go." He wrapped one arm securely around YoungSaeng's waist and led him to the door.
Opening the door, YoungSaeng walked out and closed it behind KyuJong. It didn't take them long before they reached their room. Reaching into his back pocket, YoungSaeng pulled out the key and unlocked it, letting them both in.
KyuJong followed the other boy into the room, closing the door behind them as he kicked off his shoes. Once it was locked and he'd glanced over to the blinds to make sure they were closed, he carefully took the bouquet from YoungSaeng and placed it aside before wrapping his arms around his boyfriend's waist. "Now, where were we?"
YoungSaeng smiled as KyuJong took the bouquet from him before pulling him back into his arms. "In the music room, I believe it was," YoungSaeng teased lightly, leaning forward to kiss him lightly. "Getting forgetful, are we?"
"You know that wasn't what I meant," KyuJong chuckled, kissing him back insistently. Walking YoungSaeng backwards slowly, he brought them to the edge of the bed, the back of YoungSaeng's knees touching the mattress.
Laughing lightly against KyuJong's lips, YoungSaeng sat and crawled back on the bed, lightly tugging KyuJong along with him. "You asked."
Following YoungSaeng up the bed, KyuJong kissed the younger boy's lips again and again. "Now I don't have to worry about holding back." He slid one hand up YoungSaeng's jeans to slip under his shirt, caressing his stomach and chest.
YoungSaeng's eyes closed as he leaned back, low moan coming out. "You didn't have to hold back before, either," he murmured before bringing his arms up, hoping that KyuJong got the point.
"No, but as you said, the music room isn't the most comfortable place for this." Grinning, KyuJong eased YoungSaeng's shirt up and off, dropping it off the side of the bed as he attacked his boyfriend's chest with kisses.
YoungSaeng's breath caught as KyuJong's mouth attacked his chest, his arms moving to wrap around KyuJong's neck, pulling him closer as he laid back, head resting against the pillow.
Kissing and biting, KyuJong slid his way down YoungSaeng's body, hands running up and down the other boy's sides before finding the button to his jeans. He flicked it open and eased the material off, kissing the exposed hipbone.
Letting out a quiet mewl as KyuJong kissed his hipbone, YoungSaeng felt his body shift closer if at all possible. How KyuJong was able to pull such reactions from him was unknown, but he found himself not caring as he ran his hands down his back.
KyuJong smiled at the noise, running his own hands up and down YoungSaeng's thighs, fingers dipping under the bottom of his boxers. "Happy anniversary," he whispered against his boyfriend's soft skin as he slid YoungSaeng's boxers down.
