Title: There For You
Chapter: 2/?
Pairing: KyuWook (Main), KyuMin, YeMin
Rating: PG-16
Summary: RyeoWook and KyuHyun have been best friends all their lives. KyuHyun has a long-suffering crush on their classmate, SungMin, but never confessed, only telling RyeoWook. Unfortunately, RyeoWook is deeply in love with KyuHyun, and suffers under the knowledge that he'll forever be 'best friend only'. Secrets start to come out, and both their lives will literally turn upside-down.

“…So why am I here again?” RyeoWook asked as he watched the crowd in the night club uneasily. His grip on the hem of his shirt tightened slightly as he shifted position, half-hiding behind the taller boy. He nearly had to shout to be heard over the music blaring through the speakers nearby.
“To make sure I don’t make an idiot of myself,” KyuHyun responded, gripping RyeoWooks elbow and pulling him away from the speakers so they could hear themselves think. “Besides, you wanted to come.”

Midterm exams had finally passed at their university, and as a form of celebration one of the local nightclubs had been booked by some of the students, and they organized a large party. KyuHyun had heard from HeeChul, one of the party organizers, that SungMin was coming, so he had insisted on coming as well.

I didn’t really want to come, Ryeowook thought to himself. Him and night clubs didn’t mix. He’d rather stay home and read a book than get his ears blasted out. But hearing that SungMin was there, he found himself demanding to KyuHyun to let him come too. Okay, call him jealous and selfish, but he didn’t want his best friend to be alone anywhere with SungMin. Thankfully KyuHyun agreed to his tagging along, figuring RyeoWook would make sure he didn’t accidentally get wasted and say something weird to SungMin.

Biting his lower lip, Ryeowook followed KyuHyun through the crowd, talking to him over the music. KyuHyun only half-heartedly responded, eyes scanning the room. Suddenly he did that little stumble-stop of his that he did whenever he saw the object of his love, and quickly turned around, cheeks burning red. SungMin was sitting at one of the tables to the side, talking with YeSung mildly as he watched the dancers.

“Why is he always with YeSung?” KyuHyun asked, upset by this. “Someone’s jealous,” RyeoWook noted. Not that he was one to talk. “Were you really thinking of going up and talking to him for once?”

“No,” KyuHyun admitted. “But if YeSung hadn’t been there, then I might have.” RyeoWook shook his head a bit, not believing KyuHyun for an instant.

“I’ll prove it to you,” KyuHyun said. “Call YeSung.”

RyeoWook blinked a bit. “What?”

“I know you have his cell number. Call him up, and when he leaves to answer the phone, I’ll go talk to SungMin. I have no clue what I’m going to say, but I’ll do it.” He wore a look of determination. Ryeowook bit his lip again, fighting back the lump in his throat. He was supposed to be the helpful best friend, but he felt so jealous right now! He would give anything to be in SungMin’s place. It was silly to hate the older boy when he had never even talked to him personally, but he did, just because he had all of KyuHyun’s attention, and by not noticing him was breaking KyuHyun’s heart little by little.

“Alright,” He said finally, pulling his cell out of his pocket. Yes, he had YeSung’s phone number; though they didn’t talk often, they were cousins after all. Finding his number, he hit dial and they watched as YeSung jumped slightly, pulling his vibrating cell out of his pocket. The older boy apologized to SungMin, excusing himself before going to find someplace quiet.

“Here I go,” KyuHyun said, taking a deep breath and walking up to SungMin. RyeoWook wanted to stay and watch, but now he had a phone call to deal with. KyuHyun must not want him watching. Giving a soft sigh as his heart ached, RyeoWook ran to find a quiet place.

“Hello?” Came YeSung’s voice at the other end of the phone. RyeoWook slipped out the back door of the nightclub, shivering a bit at the chill night air. Well, at least he could hear now. “Hello,” He replied. Wait, what was he supposed to say now? KyuHyun obviously wanted him to hold up a conversation, but about what?

“RyeoWook, is that you? Long time no see. What can I do for you? It’s not often you call me up.”

Okay, he needed an idea, and quick. He quickly pounced on the first thought that came into his mind. “You tutor a boy named Lee SungMin, right?” He blurted out. KyuHyun was going to kill him, but what he didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him.

“Yeah, I was with him a few seconds ago actually. You need to talk to him?”

“No!” RyeoWook exclaimed. “I just wanted… To ask you a few questions. I’ve got a friend who… Really, really likes him. Do you know if he’s already seeing anyone, or has anyone in mind?”

“Well…” YeSung sounded hesitant. “He’s not seeing anyone, no. But he does like someone that way. He made me promise to not tell though. Who’s your friend?”

“I promised not to tell too,” RyeoWook said, feeling relief inside him as well as sadness. Sadness for KyuHyun, knowing that the boy his loved had his eyes on someone already, and relieved because maybe, just maybe, KyuHyun would give up. The love he had for SungMin had turned into something of an obsession, he couldn’t go half a day without bringing up SungMin in some way. It wasn’t healthy for him.

“Alright.” For some reason, YeSung didn’t sound so happy anymore. “Is that all?”

“Yeah…”

“Okay then. It was nice talking to you RyeoWookie ah. You should call more often. Bye!”

YeSung hung up, just as KyuHyun burst out the back door, his eyes lit up. “I did it! I talked to him.” He looked like he could walk on air at that moment, a healthy glow in his cheeks. “He was so nice and polite. He’s like the perfect person.”

RyeoWook smiled and nodded. “Sounds like you’re in love,” He said, a trace of sadness in his voice. But KyuHyun didn’t notice, lost in his own thoughts. As usual. RyeoWook slipped his phone back into his pocket, closing his eyes. What was a person to do?

*****

YeSung walked back to the table, where SungMin was practically bouncing in his seat. “You’ll never guess who just came up!” He exclaimed, ecstatic. “Cho KyuHyun! Isn’t that amazing? He’s finally noticing me!”

YeSung sat down next to him, faking a smile. “That’s great news. Don’t give up, hm?”

“I won’t!” SungMin said, eyes bright. “Maybe I still have a chance.”

“You could have had a chance with me too,” YeSung murmured lightly.

“What did you say?” SungMin asked, confused.

“Nevermind.” YeSung opened and closed his phone, half-listening as SungMin went on about the conversation he had with KyuHyun. Unnoticed in the darkness, a single tear slipped down a pale cheek, falling to the black floor where it was lost forever.
