Title: There For You
Chapter: 6/?
Pairing: KyuWook (Main), KyuMin, YeMin
Rating: PG-16
Summary: RyeoWook and KyuHyun have been best friends all their lives. KyuHyun has a long-suffering crush on their classmate, SungMin, but never confessed, only telling RyeoWook. Unfortunately, RyeoWook is deeply in love with KyuHyun, and suffers under the knowledge that he'll forever be 'best friend only'. Secrets start to come out, and both their lives will literally turn upside-down

RyeoWook had his second visitor the very next day. “Hello,” YeSung greeted as he entered the hospital room. RyeoWook smiled up at the older boy, obviously without a clue who he was, but figuring if he just went along with it he’d be told sooner or later just who this mysterious boy was. YeSung met the hospitalized male’s curious eyes, before glancing away as he sat down in the chair.

“It’s true then? You lost your memories?” YeSung asked, resigned.

“That’s what the doctors said to me,” RyeoWook said helpfully. He felt like he SHOULD know who this person was, but he couldn’t quite place his finger on it. Each time he was just about to grasp something in his mind, it slipped away from him, and the harder he tried the more his head hurt. So after a moment of looking at his visitor and trying to figure out just who the hell he was, RyeoWook’s shoulders slumped as he gave in. “What’s your name?” He asked.

“Kim YeSung,” The other replied. “I’m your cousin.” RyeoWook blinked at that. “My cousin?”

“Yep. We never really talked often, but when I heard from SungMin who heard from KyuHyun that you had been in an accident and lost your memories, I decided to pay you a visit. It must be boring here by yourself. World History class never really interested me anyways.”

There was that name again, KyuHyun. That was the boy who said they were best friends. A scene flashed behind his eyes; two small boys, running through the rain, one cradling a soaked kitten in his arms and the other laughing and teasing him for taking home stray animals. RyeoWook winced, one hand going to his forehead. It hurt so much.

“Are you okay?” YeSung asked, frowning.

“Y… Yeah.” In an effort to not concentrate on what was hurting his head so much, he latched onto the other name YeSung had mentioned. “Who’s SungMin?”

YeSung raised one eyebrow as RyeoWook lowered his hand, guessing something was up from the look of pain that had crossed his smaller cousins face when he said KyuHyun’s name, but wisely choosing not to say anything. “SungMin? I’m his Math Tutor. He’s been hanging out with KyuHyun recently.” YeSung didn’t appear too happy about this, shifting a bit in his seat and frowning to himself.

“You don’t like it?” RyeoWook asked curiously. With a completely blank memory (except for the few random things he did remember), he was eager for any information he could get.

YeSung shook his head. “Not really…”

“Why?”

YeSung glanced up at him through his bangs. “You can keep a secret, right?” At RyeoWook’s enthusiastic nodding, he smiled faintly. “I’m in love with him.”

“With KyuHyun?”

YeSung smacked himself in the head. “No… With SungMin.”

“Oh…” RyeoWook blinked. “So you’re jealous?”

YeSung nodded, disgruntled. “I guess you could put it that way,” He muttered. “He’s in love with someone else though. He doesn’t see ME as anything more than a Math Tutor. A friend.”

Somewhere in the back of his mind, YeSung’s words struck a chord inside him. Suddenly pain exploded in his head. RyeoWook yelped, both hands coming up this time. “Ah!” The heart monitor started going crazy.

“RyeoWook?!? What did I say? What’s wrong?” YeSung jumped up as doctors came in. “What happened?” One of them asked as the nurses carefully got RyeoWook to lay back down, the smaller boy whimpering in pain with both hands over his eyes.

“I-I don’t know. He just suddenly screamed,” YeSung said, freaked out. “RyeoWook? RyeoWook?”

They finally got RyeoWook to calm down, giving him sedatives to put him to sleep for a while, so they could find the cause for his pain. YeSung stood. “I… I think I should go now…” He said softly, leaving.

On the way out, he bumped into KyuHyun. “Oh, YeSung! Hi,” KyuHyun said with a smile. “You were visiting RyeoWook?”

“Yeah,” YeSung said, nervous. “About that… I don’t know what happened, suddenly he screamed and was holding his head like it was going to explode. I swear I didn’t do anything.” YeSung left. KyuHyun, fighting back worry, ran to RyeoWook’s room.

The doctors were looking at charts and diagrams, frowning. “That’s odd… There’s nothing to suggest a cause for the pain. It just came and went.”

“Is he okay?” KyuHyun blurted out, looking to the bed where RyeoWook lay, sleeping.

“He’s fine now,” A nurse said reassuringly. “We’ll keep a close eye on him. For now he needs some sleep.”

*****

Two weeks passed, and the doctors were pleased to announce RyeoWook was ready to be dispatched. He could go back home, along with a prescription medicine in case the headaches came on again. They hadn’t come often, only twice besides that time with YeSung, but when they did they left him disorientated and ready to pass out. KyuHyun came every day; YeSung returned three times, apologizing over and over for whatever he had said to put RyeoWook in such a state. RyeoWook assured him it was nothing; he had no clue he had such a violent reaction himself. Only that he tried not to think too hard about that conversation with YeSung.

“So this is where we live?” RyeoWook asked, looking around their apartment. KyuHyun nodded, closing the door. He had done his best to keep the apartment clean while RyeoWook had been gone. He watched his best friend walk around the room, randomly running his fingertips over the furniture, the walls. It was clear from the frown on RyeoWook’s face that he was looking for anything he could remember. But this turned out to be useless.

KyuHyun showed RyeoWook to his room. “There’s school tomorrow, but I’m not sure if you want to have to deal with that right away,” He said. ‘The teachers were all told of your accident so they know not to put too much pressure on you, but still…”

“I’ll go,” RyeoWook said, smiling back at him before looking around. “Did I have a cat?” He asked suddenly.

KyuHyun brightened. “You remember?” RyeoWook shrugged, waiting for a reply. “You did, a black and white stray you found when we were little. You named it Rainbow, of all things.” He chuckled. “I think it was the lack of color that prompted the name.”

“Rainbow?” RyeoWook smiled faintly. “What happened to her?”

“She… Wait, how do you know it was a ‘her’?”

“I just know.”

KyuHyun grinned wider. He’d heard that line before. Then he saddened. “She died about four years ago. Hit by a car.”

“Oh,” RyeoWook intoned softly. He sat down on his bed. “I didn’t remember that.”

KyuHyun sat next to RyeoWook. “Don’t worry,” He said softly. “I’m sure you’ll remember soon. You told me once, where there’s a will there’s a way.” He gave RyeoWook a hug. “So no giving up on me.”

RyeoWook smiled faintly, hugging KyuHyun back. “Okay.” He felt so safe in the other boy’s arms. KyuHyun was very comfortable. The smaller boy’s heart was beating faster than usual, a light blush coming to his cheeks.

Then kyuHyun pulled back, still smiling. “I’ll go make dinner then, alright?” He tossled RyeoWook’s hair, then got up and left the room. RyeoWook frowned, one hand going over his heart, wondering why he felt this way.

KyuHyun went to the kitchen, but didn’t set about making dinner just yet. He sighed softly and resting his head against the cupboard, closing his eyes. He had seen RyeoWook blush, and had pulled away on purpose. He wasn’t sure what would happen if RyeoWook remembered that he loved him. He wasn’t even sure if he wanted RyeoWook to regain all his memories. Would life become awkward around each other? It was hard enough now, when he had to try to act as he always had, and forget that RyeoWook had once pulled him down by the collar, tears staining his cheeks, and kissed him.

“When did life become so confusing?” He complained to the empty kitchen. Then he sighed again, standing up straight and starting to make them both dinner.
