Title: There For You
Chapter: 8/13
Pairing: KyuWook (Main), KyuMin, YeMin
Rating: PG-16
Summary: RyeoWook and KyuHyun have been best friends all their lives. KyuHyun has a long-suffering crush on their classmate, SungMin, but never confessed, only telling RyeoWook. Unfortunately, RyeoWook is deeply in love with KyuHyun, and suffers under the knowledge that he'll forever be 'best friend only'. Secrets start to come out, and both their lives will literally turn upside-down
A month passed, without any changes in RyeoWook’s amnesia problem. He didn’t remember much, but assured KyuHyun on a daily basis that he was trying his hardest to remember. Which KyuHyun wasn’t quite sure if that was a good thing or not. He still had no clue what to say to RyeoWook if he should remember what had happened between them.
Still, KyuHyun relaxed a bit as time went on. It was easier to forget the kiss, when RyeoWook was acting normal like before. He spends most of his time trying to catch up in his studies, having forgotten everything he learnt prior to the accident. YeSung volunteered to help as best as he could, leaving SungMin and KyuHyun more time to spend together.
SungMin was everything KyuHyun had expected him to be. Smart, witty, kind, even-tempered, he even knew martial arts. And SungMin didn’t seem to bore of hanging out with him while YeSung and RyeoWook were occupied. It wasn’t long before SungMin started coming over to the apartment KyuHyun and RyeoWook shared, to watch movies or play games. KyuHyun was getting better at not tripping over his words while talking to SungMin, though he still blushed whenever the other came too close.
RyeoWook, meanwhile, had noticed the increase in affection between the two, and had to constantly deal with the pangs of pain and jealousy that he didn’t understand. He was happy that KyuHyun had someone to hang out with while he was trying to study, but something about KyuHyun’s bright smile while he was with the other boy stirred up feelings inside his best friend that he wasn’t sure he liked. What was going on with him?
This particular Saturday, YeSung and RyeoWook were at YeSung’s apartment, studying, and SungMin was over at KyuWook’s place.
“Okay, so the x would go here, and after you reduce both sides…” YeSung glanced over at RyeoWook, who frowned in concentration, lips moving silently as he finished the equation. YeSung checked the answer, then clapped RyeoWook on the back. “Good job. Is this coming back to you now?”
RyeoWook shook his head. “Not really… But I get how to do it. I can see why you’re a math tutor. Does SungMin have problems in Math?”
YeSung nodded. “Lots. But he’s getting better. I’ve been his tutor for a year, and he’s improved greatly in that time. I don’t think I’ll have to tutor him for much longer.” His expression became sad, making RyeoWook frown.
“Don’t you think you’ll still hang out with him after you’re done tutoring him?” RyeoWook asked, remembering from that first visit in the hospital that YeSung was in love with SungMin, and was using the tutoring as an excuse to be near him.
YeSung shook his head. “No, I don’t. He’s got lots of friends, now he’s got KyuHyun-“ He paused.
“What’s so special about KyuHyun being with SungMin?” RyeoWook asked, confused. “They’re just friends.”
YeSung bit his lower lip slightly. “Not… Exactly…”
“What do you mean?” RyeoWook was starting to get a very bad feeling in the pit of his stomach. One that he had come to associate with the headaches that came and went. He did NOT want to have another attack and freak YeSung out like the first time, but he really, really wanted to know what YeSung was talking about.
YeSung seemed to wrestle with himself for a moment, debating whether to tell RyeoWook what he knew. RyeoWook waited patiently, never one to rush, and mentally preparing himself for whatever YeSung was going to say. After a moment, YeSung drew in a small breath. “It’s that… SungMin… He’s in love with KyuHyun.”
RyeoWook blinked. “He is?” Pain twisted his heart again, and he didn’t have the faintest clue WHY.
YeSung nodded, biting his lower lip. It was then that RyeoWook realized what this meant for YeSung. “SungMin loves KyuHyun… And you love HIM.” YeSung nodded in confirmation. “So… Do you plan on telling him?”
YeSung laughed, the sound a bit harsh. “And face rejection? No thanks. I’d rather just be his tutor and still be somewhat close to him than confess and lose him forever.” RyeoWook winced a bit, one hand going to his head. This was all sounding so familiar.
“Are you okay, Wook?” Yesung asked with a frown. RyeoWook nodded. “Yeah…” He lowered his hand, not wanting Yesung to worry. “SungMin and KyuHyun have been spending a lot of time together…” The other nodded, pain in his eyes.
RyeoWook hugged YeSung. “Don’t give up, okay YeSungie? Things change.” YeSung nodded. “RyeoWook, what does KyuHyun think about SungMin?” He asked.
“I’m not sure,” RyeoWook admitted. “But he seems to like it when they’re together… His smile is so bright…” A sad look crossed RyeoWook’s face, one that YeSung recognized with a jolt. It was hard not to; it was the exact same expression he saw on his own face through the mirror, day after day.
“RyeoWook… Are you…”
“Hm?” RyeoWook looked up at him. “Am I what?”
“…” YeSung bit his lower lip again, thinking an idea through. “Nevermind. Let’s get back to studying, alright?”
He had discovered something new about the relationship between his cousin and his best friend.

Back at KyuHyun and RyeoWook’s apartment, KyuHyun and SungMin were curled up on the couch, watching a horror movie. SungMin would twitch each time something popped up on the screen, yet insisted he was perfectly fine watching this. KyuHyun smiled faintly, surprised that SungMin of all people would be scared of horror movies.
He didn’t know when would be the best time to confess to the older boy, or if he was even ready to. Everytime he told himself that today would be the day, he always found some excuse to postpone the confession. He didn’t even have RyeoWook to help suggest ideas anymore. Glancing at SungMin curled up beside him, his eyes trailed to the boys very pink lips. He shook his head hard to clear it. C’mon KyuHyun, pull yourself together.
SungMin left later that night, with a cheerful goodbye. KyuHyun was stunned when the pink-loving boy gave him a warm hug, the hug lasting just a second longer than normal before SungMin was gone, running down the stairs of the apartment building. Trying to ignore the fact that a faint blush was creeping up his cheeks, KyuHyun closed the door and glanced at the time. Seven at night.
He frowned a bit. RyeoWook should have finished up at YeSung’s over an hour ago. Where was he? About to call RyeoWook on his cell, he remembered RyeoWook couldn’t find it. He had left it somewhere in the apartment the night of the accident, and obviously couldn’t remember where he had put it.
Sighing softly, he pulled on his jacket and left the apartment, grabbing the keys on the way out. Time to track down his wayward roommate.

Knowing that SungMin was over, RyeoWook hadn’t wanted to go home right away. So after saying goodbye to YeSung, he had wandered down the street, letting his feet take him wherever. Not exactly the smartest thing when he couldn’t remember if there were any parts of town he should stay away from, but he didn’t care so much right now.
He just couldn’t get the thought of SungMin liking KyuHyun out of his head. He felt… So jealous. But SungMin had been nothing but nice to him! But… Even so… Tasting salt, he wiped one hand across his cheeks, startled to feel wetness. “Why am I crying?”
Looking up, he saw that he was standing in a park. He looked around, frowning lightly. He felt like he’d been here before… Many times before. Where was he?
A lone tree standing off to one side caught his eye. It stood majestically, towering way over the other few trees in the area, but had low branches to provide a foothold to anyone who climbed it. His fingers itched to try.
Walking over, he tried reaching up and frowned when his fingertips just grazed the lowest branch. Bracing himself, he jumped up and hung from it with both hands. He carefully pulled himself up onto the tree, which didn’t seem affected at all by his slight weight. Biting his lower lip in determination, he started to climb up higher. Soon he could only barely make out the ground through the dense leaves.
Sitting down on one of the horizontal branches, he swung his legs back and forth and looked around. It was high up, but he didn’t feel afraid. He felt excited at being so far off the ground.
They started as a whisper in the back of his mind, but then the voices came back again. The ones from his dream in the hospital.
“RyeoWookie hyung, you’re gonna break your neck!”
“Am not! You should come up too Hyunnie, it’s fun!”
“What if I don’t want to die yet?
“You’re not gonna die! I’ve never fallen yet.”
“I’m not a monkey like you.”
“I’m not a monkey!”
He winced, closing his eyes and covering his eyes. But that did nothing to shut up the voices.
“Hyung, we’re starting highschool tomorrow, aren’t you nervous?”
“No. It’s the same as primary school, just a lot more kids.”
“But there’s so many people! What if we get separated? What if you make new friends and leave me alone?”
“I won’t, Hyunnie. Best friends forever!”
RyeoWook whimpered softly. “Shut up, shut up…”
“It’s a promise?”
“RyeoWook!”
Opening his eyes at the sudden intruding voice, he looked around, breathing unevenly. His head was pounding, and the corners of his vision was going black. “RyeoWook, are you here?” He heard KyuHyun call.
The other boy appeared underneath the tree, looking up through the leaves. “There you are.” RyeoWook stared down at him. His vision wavered, and for a moment, he saw instead of KyuHyun a young boy, with KyuHyun’s bright grin, staring up at him through the leaves. “Hyung!” Called the voice in his head.
KyuHyun below stepped forward when RyeoWook swayed on the branch. Then suddenly, the boy fell. “RyeoWook!” KyuHyun exclaimed, jumped forward to break his friend’s fall. RyeoWook wasn’t heavy, but the sudden impact did knock him to the ground. Even as a kid, RyeoWook had NEVER fallen from his tree before.
Trying to catch his breath, he gasped softly as he felt RyeoWook’s breath on his neck, the boy lying on top of him. Their bodies were very, very close together, their legs tangled together by the fall. KyuHyun gulped. “R-RyeoWook… Are you okay?”
No response. “RyeoWook?” KyuHyun propped himself up on his elbows so he could see the boy curled up against his chest. RyeoWook had passed out.
Panicked, KyuHyun sat up and pulled the boy into his lap, quickly checking over him for injuries. Finding none, he sighed softly. “What am I going to do with you?” He stood up carefully, holding RyeoWook in his arms. RyeoWook turned his head a bit, his warm breath against KyuHyun’s Adams Apple sending shivers down the younger boys body. KyuHyun turned and started the walk back home, telling himself over and over, that the only reason his heart was pounding was because he was worried about RyeoWook. No other reason.
