Summary: The one thing Lee DongHae hadn't expected to happen that Sunday morning was to die. But that is exactly what happened, and now because of a 'lingering regret', he can't pass on fully. What regret is this? A long-suffering crush on a boy who didn't even know he existed; Kim KiBum. So he is given one week on earth as a ghost to fulfill this regret... Or heaven might not even be an option for him anymore. But with KiBum the only one who can see him, and an experienced ghost hunter on his tail, can he even make the deadline?
A/N: And here's the first chapter! Sorry for the wait! I'm very excited about this story, and hope you all are too ^.^ By the way, one of my friends is going to be posting up a fanfic here very soon, the title is Anything but Ordinary, so if you see it please check it out! She's a much better writer than she gives herself credit for, and she's the one who got me interested in SuJu in the first place. So I'm giving an official recommendation!

Chapter One:

The first thing he saw when he opened his eyes was smoke. Smoke everywhere. Coughing, he looked around for the source as he stood up. He felt funny; a light tingling running through his body. Looking around he saw tons of police cars, and ambulances, sirens going ful-blast. The smoke was from one of the stores nearby, fire roaring inside and people ran out of it screaming. Gunshots rang out, a cluster of gang members in a tussle with the police.

It was the kind of thing you heard about in the news every week or so. This area of town was famous for gang fights, but he came here often with his friends to play in the arcades. There must be a gang fight right now. Or there was a gang fight, the police seem to be just rounding up the few resistors now. This had gone a bit far though. Setting a shop on fire? He felt bad for the people inside the building.

“DongHae! DongHae!”

The sound of his name made the boy look around. Nearby, there were three figures on the side of the road next to a motorbike that had fallen over onto its side. Walking over, he recognized the two kneeling. His cousin SungMin, practically screaming at the one on the ground. His best friend Eunhyuk, rocking back and forth and whispering, “This can’t be real, this can’t be happening’, repeating it over and over like a broken record.

“DongHae, please!” SungMin pleaded, shaking the third boy by the shoulders. “Um, hello? I’m over here?” DongHae replied, confused. He walked closer and repeated himself, but neither SungMin nor EunHyuk heard him. Stopping beside them, he looked down at the only one who hadn’t spoken.

His first thought was that the guy looked terrible. There was soot all over his face, scraps and scratches on his cheeks and arms. He was lying perfectly still, skin pale and eyes closed. DongHae’s gaze was drawn downward, and he shivered when he saw the red staining the boys shirt. It came from a hole in the cloth and skin, thick crimson liquid seeping from it to form a puddle on the ground. He looked up at the others face again, frowning.

It took him five seconds to realize he was looking at himself.

And another five seconds to realize he wasn’t breathing.

DongHae blinked, rubbed his eyes, then looked again. That was him, lying there on the ground. His blood staining the pavement underneath him. SungMins yells resonated in his head, his name repeated over and over. “DongHae! DongHae!”

“W… What’s going on? SungMin? SungMin, I’m right here. Look over here!” DongHae exclaimed, panicking. Reaching out to grab SungMins shoulder and spin him around forcefully, his hand passed right through the others body, and caught off-guard DongHae fell forward, right through SungMin. His cousin shivered, as if a cold wind had just blown by, but other than that showed no reaction to DongHae’s attempts at getting his attention. In fact, his shouting became more frenzied than before. “You can’t die, DongHae! Please, open your eyes! Lee DongHae!”

Die? Did he die? Swallowing, DongHae pushed himself up so he could look better at the DongHae lying so unresponsively on the ground. Definitely not breathing. And when he laid one ear against his chest, trying not to pass right through and trying not to think about how weird this felt, he couldn’t hear a heartbeat.

A shaken sob came from EunHyuk, and DongHae looked up at him. He was still sitting where he had been for the past minute, rocking back and forth slightly and staring at his deceased friend, tears streaming down his cheeks. DongHae’d never seen Hyukkie this upset before. The thought that he was upset because of him tugged painfully at his heart… Or where his heart should be.

“So… I’m dead?” DongHae whispered, sitting back. “Is this supposed to be heaven?” He felt very cheated for some reason. “Or maybe it’s hell…” Seeing his cousin and best friend crying over his body was definitely hell enough for him.

“Neither, actually.” DongHae jumped when his question was answered. Looking around frantically, his eyes focused on a young man his height, a bit older than him. The other walked towards him cautiously, as if not wanting to spook him. His body… It glowed. DongHae could see a white aura surrounding him, spiky at the back in what could have been the shape of folded-up wings. The others bright eyes looked from DongHae’s body to the DongHae looking at him with open-mouthed shock.

“This is still Earth. Which would make you a ghost, I believe. Sorry about your death, by the way. It wasn’t very timely, very senseless.”

“I-I… I’m a ghost?” DongHae couldn’t be more surprised if God himself came down for a visit. “That’s… Wait, who are you? Are you an angel?” He looked at the wing-shaped glow behind the older male.

“Hm, not quite. I’m a spirit-guide, to guide souls to Heaven. Or Hell, depending on their destination. You may call me LeeTeuk.” LeeTeuk smiled, showing off one dimple.

“A spirit-guide? I’m not going to Hell, am I?” DongHae tried to think of anything he might have done to warrant an eternity of damnation. It didn’t sound like the most enjoyable prospect.

“No, you’re not going to Hell. You’re not really going anywhere right now, actually.”

“Not going anywhere…?” DongHae was distracted by the arrival of ambulances. One screeched to a halt a few meters from his body, the back doors flying open and paramedics coming out. A bit late for DongHae though. One crouched next to his body, DongHae’s ghost looking curiously over his shoulder as he verified that DongHae was indeed dead. There were others injured, the worst loaded onto the ambulances in stretchers before taking off for the hospital, sirens screeching. When the paramedic looking at DongHae stood up, SungMin cornered him before he could leave.

“Why are you leaving? He needs help! Take him to the hospital!”

“He will be taken, but only for an autopsy. I’m sorry, he’s long dead by now.”

EunHyuk finally snapped out of his daze, standing up and grabbing SungMin before the older boy could take out his frustration on the poor paramedic. SungMin struggled, then finally collapsed in tears.

DongHae was thankful when LeeTeuk started talking again, taking his eyes off of his cousin and turning to face the spirit-guide again. “The reason you’re a ghost is because there’s something keeping you from moving on. I understand you’re still a bit traumatized by all this…” A Bit? That was the understatement of the century. “But the sooner you figure out why you’re here, the sooner you can move on to Heaven.”

DongHae bit his lower lip slightly, thinking. “And what if I can’t figure it out?”

“Well… I can give you a week. After the week, if you aren’t ready to move on, I’m afraid you can’t get into Heaven. And what can’t go up…”

“Must go down.” DongHae felt ill. Well, as ill as a ghost could be. “A week only? Why not longer?”

“It’s the rules. There’s a reason for it, but you don’t need to concern yourself with all the technical issues now. It’ll only make you even more depressed.” LeeTeuk sat down on the ground next to DongHae. It suddenly struck DongHae that this was a heavenly being talking to him. An angel of sorts. He’d always believed in aliens, but it was still a lot to take in. And LeeTeuk wasn’t acting all snobby or high-and-mighty either. If it weren’t for the aura, wing-shapes and the dead giveaway that he was talking to a ghost, he could have been an ordinary guy.

“Think, DongHae. What is there that you have left undone here?”

DongHae looked at LeeTeuk. “You already know, don’t you?” He accused.

LeeTeuk nodded, looking guilty. “Yeah… I sort of took a peek at your memories before coming to see you. Sorry for the intrusion but I sort of need to know, huh? And no I can’t just tell you. I can heavily hint though.”

DongHae shrugged. “Alright… I don’t know. Would being at the bottom of the class in school be considered something left undone?”

“Is it something you’re concerned about?”

“…”

“There’s your answer.”

DongHae fell silent, thinking. Something he left undone… Something he wanted to do, but never got around to it… His eyes followed SungMin and EunHyuk as they finally left, one to accompany his body and the other to tell DongHae’s parents the awful news. His parents. He knew they didn’t like it when he and his friends came to this end of town, always sure something bad was going to happen. Well, something finally had. They would be devastated.

Something he needed to do… Or was it more of… Someone he needed to talk to? “There was… A boy I liked, but I never really talked to him,” DongHae said, blushing faintly. LeeTeuk nodded understandingly.

“What was this boys’ name?” He asked in a motherly tone.

“K… Kim KiBum.”

*****

It had started off like any other day. There was nothing special about it; not a holiday, one of those dates that once held importance yet the average person now could care less about, or much of anything really. But for a certain Kim KiBum, that day and the week that followed would hold so many fond and painful memories. Things that made him smile, that brought agonizing despair, that made him just shake his head in disbelief of all that had happened. It was beyond what those few, simple words on the calendars of coming years could convey:

The day I met DongHae
