A/N: Finally, a one-shot without any Character Death! This is actually happy, for once. I was having a maor writers block for Till Death do we Part (I know what I want, but it's not coming out right~~), so I decided to post this up in the meantime.

KyuHyun wasn’t a big fan of winter. He much prefered the summer, when it was warm and he didn’t have to bundle himself up like a mummy to avoid freezing to death. Maybe it was because of his immune system, or apparent lack of, but he was always shivering even in the best of weathers, so winter was the nightmare season for him.

So as a person who hated anything cold with a passion, he wondered once again how he managed to find himself outside at the beginning of December, watching his boyfriend pout up at the sky. “SungMin, are you sure the weather report said it would snow today?” He asked, sighing softly.

“Yes, yes it did! Please wait just a little while longer, Kyu!” SungMin turned that adorable puppy look at him, and KyuHyun caved in. SungMin had insisted on watching the first snow with him, but there weren’t any clouds in the sky. And KyuHyun was freezing. But watching SungMin standing there looking up at the sky with such anticipation stopped him from argueing.

Finally though SungMin was forced to admit defeat. It simply wouldn’t snow today. “Come on, I’ll walk you home,” KyuHyun said, taking in the dejected expression on his bunny boy’s face. SungMin pouted a little, looking up at the sky one last time, before he finally took hold of KyuHyun’s offered hand, his mitten brushing against bare skin. “And you wonder why you always catch sick,” SungMin said with a smile, and KyuHyun chuckled softly.

He walked SungMin home, then after a brief goodbye he turned to walk the rest of the way home by himself. Looking around, KyuHyun decided to cut through the park, to minimise the time spend freezing outside. Humming softly under his breath, he was distracted by a sudden touch of cold on his cheek. Blinking, he saw a small flake drift past his eyes, to melt before it touched the ground. Stopping where he stood, KyuHyun looked up. The snow had finally come. “Figures, as soon as he gives up,” KyuHyun murmured, a bit miffed at the sky for its timing. But late was better than never.

Soon, the snowflakes thickened, and the frosted-over ground was covered with a light film of white. It was a peaceful scene, and despite his dislike for winter it brought a smile to KyuHyuns lips. The sounds around him faded away, muffled by the growing blanket of snow.

When he was about to continue walking, a figure nearby caught his eye. A male his age was lying on the grass, one leg bent and arms behind his head. Had someone fallen asleep? It could be deadly to stay outside when it was this cold. Cautiously, KyuHyun made his way over to the boy.

To his surprise, the other wasn’t sleeping, but staring up at the sky. A smile played on his monkey-like face, and every now and then he would open his mouth slightly to catch the falling snowflakes on the tip of his tongue. He looked so content, just lying there.

“Um… Aren’t you cold?” KyuHyun asked. If he had been the one to lie down on the snow-covered ground like that, he’d have hell to pay tomorrow. But this boy didn’t seem to mind.

Chocolate-brown eyes looked back at him, and that goofy smile appeared again as the other sat up. Snow was in his hair, flecks of white amid the dark brown. “No,” He said with a shake of the head. “It’s actually quite nice like this. Why don’t you try?”

“Thanks but no thanks,” KyuHyun said. He wasn’t crazy. The other sighed softly, but his smile didn’t fade. “…Alright.”

KyuHyun watched him tilt his head up towards the sky again. He was just as intranced by the snow as SungMin was. But KyuHyun was really cold now, and didn’t share their love for winter. So he left the boy sitting there, heading back home to the warmth waiting for him there.

He passed by the park everyday, whether it was to head to school for his Christmas Exams, or to visit SungMin. The boy was always there, morning or night, in relatively the same area. He wasn’t always sitting though. Sometimes he was walking around drawing shapes in the freshly-fallen snow, then as more fell and the ground was completely covered, he started to make snowballs and snow forts. He seemed to have no concept of time, or anywhere else to be.

KyuHyun grew used to seeing him, and the boy would wave at him cheerfully each time KyuHyun passed by the park. One day, KyuHyun turned his back on him and something cold and wet hit his shoulder. Stumbling slightly, he looked back to see his jacket covered in snow, and the boy rolling on the ground laughing.

“Hey,” KyuHyun protested, brushing the remains off. “That was cold.”

“It’s snow, that’s the point!” The other replied, standing up again and forming another snowball. “If you don’t like it, do something about it!” then he lobbed it straight at KyuHyun, making the other duck out of the way.

KyuHyun could have just walked away. He disliked the snow, and the cold that came with it. He could have just turned around and gone back home. But he didn’t. Instead, he scooped up a pile of snow into his gloved hands, forming it into a ball. It wet his gloves and numbed his fingers. Then, looking up and taking careful aim, he shot it at the boy who was still taunting him. Caught offguard, the boy went down into a snowdrift, the sight of his feet straight-up in the air startling a laugh out of KyuHyun.

The snow-boy pulled himself back up, another snowball already in his hands. “Oh, you’re so dead!”

They spend most of the afternoon through snow at each other, using the various snow drifts, park benches and trees as cover. KyuHyun got the boy several times, including once in the back of the head. In return, KyuHyun was soon covered in random wet spots on his jacket and jeans, testimony to the others precise aim.

Only when his fingers started to burn with pain di he finally stop, doubling over to catch his breath. That had been fun, more fun that he’d had in a long while. The other boy joined him, still looking as fresh as he had when the whole fight had started, laughing his head off.
“Hey… What’s your name?” He vasked suddenly, crouching down at eye-level with the exhausted boy.

“KyuHyun,” KyuHyun replied, smiling faintly.

“EunHyuk,” The other replied happily.

So he finally learnt the name of the snow boy.

As he expected, the next day he paid for his time outside. When SungMin called to ask if he wanted to see a movie, KyuHyun had to decline. He was stuck in bed with a fever for a good part of the day. He didn’t blame EunHyuk though; he’d actually enjoyed himself yesterday. He hadn’t played in the snow since he was little, and caught hypothermia one winter. Since then, he’d stayed away from snow and cold.

Hearing the soft thwack of something hitting his bedroom window, he got up and made his way over. Opening the blinded, he looked down to see what had hit the window. Bits of snow clung to the glass.

Looking outside, a small smile curled his lips. Written in the snow in front of his house were the words ‘I’m Sorry’, with a smiley face beside it. KyuHyun chuckled softly, shaking his head a little.

Winter progressed, and exams finished. SungMin left to visit family for Christmas, and suddenly KyuHyun had much more free time on his hands than he’d originally planned. He spent most of his time outside with EunHyuk, talking or throwing snowballs at each other. His health slowly got better, as he became used to the cold air. He found that keeping active outside actually kept him from catching sick again.

He didn’t understand how EunHyuk could bear it though. The older male never wore gloves, and kept his thin jacket wide open and blowing in the breeze. His pants were always soaked through due to the amount of time he spent sitting in the snow. He never seemed to leave the park. But when KyuHyun invited him inside for a cup of hot cocoa, he declined.

“You’re going to get hypothermia,” KyuHyun warned him one day. “Don’t you ever go home?” But EunHyuk only smiled at him and lobbed a snowball in his face, making KyuHyun completely forget what he had been talking about.

EunHyuk was the one who brought the child side of KyuHyun out. He always had to be so serious, everyone in his life had demanded so much out of him at such a young age that he’d had to grow up far quicker than had been healthy. But EunHyuk could draw out the playful spirit KyuHyun hid, and they spent many days making snowmen, building forts then knocking then down, or making snow angels. Once, they even made what EunHyuk called a quinzee, an igloo made out of snow, and slept in it overnight. It was surprisingly warm inside, and taking it down in the morning was hilarious. Especially when EunHyuk got his foot stuck and needed KyuHyuns help to pull him out, resulting in both of them tumbling off the roof of the snow igloo. KyuHyun had never laughed so much in his entire life. He felt free.

The snow was starting to melt. School started, and SungMin returned. With so much suddenly going on, KyuHyun saw EunHyuk less and less. But on the few times they did meet, EunHyuk seemed sad, depressed.

“Winter’s over,” He said softly, bending to pick up a pile of slush.

“At least you won’t be in danger of freezing,” KyuHyun commented, shrugging a little.

EunHyuk turned his eyes to KyuHyun. “KyuHyun ah…”

Looking up to meet the others gaze, KyuHyun got a jolt when, for a split second, he saw the others eyes weren’t their usual deep brown, but a clear, sapphire blue. But EunHyuk blinked, and everything was back to normal. KyuHyun shook his head a bit to clear it. EunHyuk gave a sad smile. “… Nevermind.”

KyuHyun went home that night, uneasy and concerned for his friend, getting a bad feeling for reasons he didn’t and couldn’t understand.

“EunHyuk hyung! EunHyuk!”

KyuHyun looked around the park. The grass was completely bare of snow, not a single speck of white remaining in the harsh light of the sun. Feeling too warm, KyuHyun unzipped his jacket and continued looking. But the older male was nowhere to be found. “EunHyuk, where are you?”

“Kyu, who are you looking for?”

KyuHyun turned around to see SungMin, looking confused. “Ah…” KyuHyun looked around again. “… No one.”

“Oh… All the snow’s gone,” SungMin said, frowning a little and kicking at the black gravel left behind. KyuHyun nodded slightly, casting one last look around the abandoned park. The snow had gone, and so had the boy that had appeared along with it.

“Kyu~, please, just wait a few more minutes!” SungMin pouted, flapping his arms a little and making KyuHyun laugh. His breath formed in a small fog in front of him, vanishing. “SungMin hyung, no matter how long you stand there waving your arms, the snow won’t come if there’s no clouds,” He pointed out.

“Ah… I was hoping I could see it this year,” SungMin pouted, sighing dejectedly. “Well, I’m going home then. See you later Kyu!” He kissed KyuHyun lightly on the lips, then bounced off.

KyuHyun smiled faintly, watching the other vanish down the street. Looking up at the cloudless sky, he walked slowly to the center of the park. Finding a bare patch of grass, he laid down and stared up at the sky. The sky was a clear blue above. Despite how cold the ground was, KyuHyun slowly closed his eyes and let himself drift.

Until a spot of cold hit his cheek.

Opening his eyes, he saw them. Small specks of white, drifting lazily in the breeze. Sitting up, he watched them fall, slowly covering the ground.

“Sitting out here by yourself? Aren’t you cold?” Arms wrapped around his shoulders from behind. A gentle smile formed on KyuHyuns lips, as he turned around.

A grin formed on that monkey face, eyes appearing sapphire blue for a single moment before returning to chocolate brown. KyuHyun chuckled, pulling EunHyuk into a hug.

“…Not anymore.”
