Dude, your Joy Division girl idea seriously isn't that far fetched. Keep the door open and keep something decent on loud enough to hear a ways down and they could very well come running. As for laptop sound, yeah, mine is hella boo boo, too. Not hella, but lightweight boo boo. Speakers are a solid investment, I'd say; I couldn't tolerate laptop sound all the way through college!
