Prognosis: Not good

My father's been there nearly a full week.  They were hoping the antibiotics would have kicked in by now but his liver is failing because the rest of his body is failing, so his body isn't processing things the way it should normally.  His blood pressure has gotten slowly worse ( Read more... )

I am so glad you posted. I'm in Europe and can't get an email out of here... I have been wondering what is going on.

Such things are not easy. Go and sit with him and tell him all the best things about being his son. Tell him you love him and, if you choose, tell him that there is nothing he needs to worry about anymore, that you will take care of your Mom and you and he can go when he is ready.

It is never easy but we are all dying from the moment we are born. Give him love, sing to him, make your own kissy faces with him. You are a good man and he knows it.
Hugs,
Joanne

I am so sorry; this is so, so hard. I'm glad the nurse was able to speak to you in detail, and I'm glad that people have been honest with you, even when honest isn't nice or pleasant. I hope, more than anything else, that your mom is not being over the top about all of this and you are able to have your time.

You have done and are doing everything you possibly can, and for that you should be able to rest at night. I hope that someone, even a little bit, is taking care of you as well.

xo and lots of love

Fortunately my Mom had some sort of revelation last Monday. We had a huge fight and she said how much free time I had because I needed such trivial things as an occasional day off to celebrate my 5th wedding anniversary. I went through my schedule with her day by day and it seemed to finally sink in that (1) I was with her nearly every day doing stuff and working hard, and (2) When I wasn't with her, I almost always was off working hard and doing stuff to take care of Syndee.

The next day she said she thought a lot about it and felt terrible. She apologised for all the terrible things she said to me and she's been nice and considerate to me ever since. She's even been nice to Syndee.

So...it's nice that we're getting along. I hope it lasts.
