He's a good kid. History doesn't have to repeat itself; I hope he never forgets that.

September 29, 1998. All of six years ago from my reckoning.

This was the day a rookie cop stepped into a city of the walking dead. With a gun in his hands and no idea what was going on.

He made it out somehow. And it ( Read more... )

Now that sounds like something out of a good monster movie.

[dry chuckle] Now that you mention it, the elements were sure in place for one. The newbie lawman, the girl looking for her brother, the femme fatale with her own agenda, the mad scientist who fell victim to his own medicine...I suppose one's B-movie is another one's reality.

Nothing fun about it though. Not when your chances of survival hinge on how fast you can run or how many bullets you've got left.

Good point. I think I'll stick with just watching that stuff rather than try to live it.

The walking... dead?

Ah, Ssilissa.

Yup, zombies. They're real on my world; what you get when a virus meant to create bio-weapons starts an outbreak.

Um, Leon? Perhapss I sshould mention that the year I wass pulled here from was 1851, I know that'ss the passt from the point of view of a lot of people here, and I didn't undersstand a word of that beyond "they're real in my world."

Oh! Sorry about that. Yeah that's the past for me too. It was 2004 when they brought me here.

Hm.... from the top I suppose.

Where I'm from there's this huge multi-national company called Umbrella. They created the T-Virus, a sickness meant to transform people into unstoppable living weapons. More often than not though, human victims become "zombies". Walking corpses driven by their hunger for living flesh.

The T-Virus caused an outbreak in a city back home, Raccoon City. I was a lawman getting assigned there for the first time and I found the whole place crawling with these things. People who'd once been alive as you and me. Sometimes I fought them. Sometimes I ran from them. It was the longest night of my life.

But with plenty of luck to help us along, I survived with two others. Two days later, my government ordered the destruction of Raccoon City to prevent the virus from spreading elsewhere. I've spent my life since then making sure nothing like Raccoon ever has to happen again.

Congratulations. You've made it this far.

Who are you talking about in the first part?

Thanks. Here's to another six years. And to another six after that.

That'd be Soma, the only one we've got here. You've met him?

I've spoken with him over the communicators more than once, but we haven't met in person. He has some good theories about this place. Your point?

He'll probably tell you everything himself sometime. Suffice to say... he feels tugged towards the man he was in a past life. And he's not happy about it.

Still; there's no need for him to walk that road all over again if he doesn't want to. No one's life is scripted. That's what I meant back there.

Heh. That sounds strangely familiar.

Congratulations on surviving.

Heh, thanks. 'Surviving' is exactly the word I'd use.

Someone else who's danced with the dead?

Yeah. Amongst other things. Seem to be a few of us here, too.

I've noticed; met one or two myself. They're the ones who convinced me vampires and demons and all that are real. Took me awhile to belive them coz we don't have those on my world. Just those monsters birthed by science gone wrong.

Walkin' dead? LurksVampires, you mean?

Nah, just zombies and B.O.W.s bio-organic weapons. Don't have 'real' bloodsuckers on my world.

Every bit real as this crazy town. Got the nightmares to prove it.
