It’s always lovely to be on the receiving end of things, to let someone else bend over backwards just so you’ll be the recipient of utmost pleasure. Pour your heart out and let them carry the burdens of all your troubles. It’s easier to deal with, easier to drag them through the turmoil and trauma, every step of the way. Watch them disregard their problems at the drop of a hat in order to paper over the cracks in your heart.
You’ve found yourself in a few unpleasant situations in this life, but he’s there without fail to dig you out.
It’s taking it’s toll on him, clearly. You sympathetically gaze at his weary face and your stomach knots. As he begins to slip into a well overdue sleep, you take his hand and lie with him - it’s times like these that you realise he’s become your fucking everything, and deep down you wish you didn’t rely on him so heavily. He tells you not to worry, that’s what he’s there for, but you constantly go over in your head how he really sees it. Perhaps it’s a fear of losing you that keeps him going. You can’t comprehend that it could be because he wants to. Does he long for breathing space, to be alone with his thoughts, just for once?
The ghostly dark shadows under his eyes trouble you more than anything you’ve ever told him, than any of the obstacles he shields you against.
He’s long gone, deep into slumber. You get up. Let go of his hand. He clings tighter - he won’t let you go.
Maybe he needs me as much as I need him.
No.
It’s already overstepped the mark.
He’s haunted by your nightmares, riddled with a constant worry for your well-being. His existence dwells on satisfying you, and that’s why - no matter how hard you find it - you have to leave him now…
…oblivious to the destruction you’re about to ignite, and just how much you’re going to regret this.
