Gretchen, Dorian and I all posed for her when she did a trans series years ago... let's see, maybe about 8 years ago? DH took a class with Victoria, an acquaintance of mine who's a great printmaker (www.milkfedpress.com). Victoria was binding some books for DH and recognized my photo and sent me the link. I know several of the people in the pix. The exhibit was a bit controversial at the time, as most of the people looked rather tortured or sad, and some felt DH's portrayal of transfolk was transphobic. I kind of doubt now that that was her intent however, as apparently she works with shadow and light a lot in general, and I think she uses the shadow and light to affect what gender comes through. What do you think?
Oh, well I really like them. They're wonderful to look at and very powerful. I agree with you about the light and darkness. I'm not sure I agree about most of them looking tortured and sad. Serious yes. Some of them maybe a bit sad. But mostly solemn, which matches the overall technique, mood and so on.
