I'm going to try to share a nice story or two about Germany, because otherwise I'm just going to sit here and bitch about it, lol. So I present to you....
*This one time...In Germany....*
*I have a frog stuffed animal that was a gift to me before I left. This frog is not a normal frog, as it has something inside of it that causes it to make noises. This frog went with me to the hospital. Now, at the hospital there were 2 male nurses that particularly liked to be the ones who answered my nurse calls, or take me to the tests I needed (and yes, they were cute...I think they were happy about having someone young in the ICU and the cardiac unit instead of the old farts they deal with normally. That and they didn't have to sponge bathe me). One's name was Johannes, the other's name was Dominic. When I had to go to get my CT scan done, Johannes took me. They rolled me to radiology on my bed because it was the day that I was moved me the ICU to the Cardiac unit, so because of this the frog came with me to the CT scan.
Anyway, there was a female nurse who had to put the IV needle in my hand for the CT scan injection. I have no problem with needles or anything, I just can't watch them being put in me. Since I was looking away so fiercely, I guess Johannes thought that I was afraid of it or something, so he took my hand and looked at me and was like "It's okay, you're doing fine...she's almost done." and things like that. When the needle was taped into place, I got moved to a wheelchair (with the frog...the female nurse told me to take it with me) and Johannes rolled me into the room where the scan would take place. Well the radiologist said that I wouldn't be able to have the frog when the scan was going on.... so Johannes took it.
And he shoved it into his pants. Only the head and paws could be seen above the waistband of his pants.
It stayed there for the entire scan, which took about 20 minutes.
*Then there was a time that Dominic brought breakfast in. He took the cover off the tray and there was this THING sitting there that I guess was SUPPOSED to be meat of some sort. It was this clear, gelatinous substance with CHUNKS of white, orange and pink stuff in it. I took one look at that, looked up and Dominic and he had the same expression on his face as I did and he said "I'll um....just get rid of that for you..." I don't think I said "THANK YOU!!!!!!!!" fast enough.
*There was a time I was at Julia's spending the night, and I was expecting a phone call. We ended up sitting up with her sisters, listening to music, eating ice cream with milk and chocolate sprinkles, and looking through my high school yearbook. I ended up sharing funny stories about all my friends as well. Then WELL LATER that night, around 2:30am or so, I FINALLY got the phone call I was waiting for. But the thing is, Julia, her sisters and I had been talking about stuff before... Lisi was crab walking and saying something really funny, so when the phone rang we all SCREAMED because we weren't expecting it. I picked up the phone and was cracking up soooo badly when I answered...which is bad, because EVERYTIME I got a phone call from this person, everyone in the room would be laughing about something and they never liked that. But I couldn't help it :X If you'd seen Lisi crab walk, you'd be laughing too.
*The day that I went home to pack because I was moving host families, I had to stay after school for Big Band. I walked to the bus stop, and David and Sebastian were there. Before this, they were just casual friends that said "Hi" to me in the halls, or helped me find my way if I was lost. I was standing there waiting, txting Julia to see if she could come and help me pack, then I called my host...whatever she was...and asked her if Julia could come over to help. My host whatever said that I had to pack alone, so after I hung up the phone, I cussed it out. The 2 guys asked what was wrong, and I explained to them what was going on... So they started cracking jokes and saying they'd distract my host whatever so Julia could come and help me pack. And the whole time while I was whining, they just listened to me, joked with me and tried to make me feel better...which I really appreciated, because I didn't know them that well, so I wasn't expecting them to help me out any or anything. Not really a funny story, just a nice one about nice German boys ;)
*I had a friend named Anika at
Europaschule. Anika went on a 3 week exchange to the Europaschule's American partner school, so she liked to talk with me about America. Apparently when she was in America, her host sister didn't know how to pronounce her name right, so she (her sister) just asked if she could call Anika "Anikan". A week or so after fall break, Anika started dating a boy in our class named Lukas. So the couple was Luke and Anikan...if you can't figure it out, obviously you're not much of a Star Wars fan... She made jokes about this all the time.
*Once again, I was a Julia's house. They let their rabbit out into the backyard sometimes so she could get some fresh air and eat grass and all that stuff. This was the first time I was over at Julia's house, and for some reason, the rabbit wouldn't come in from the back yard. They tried EVERYTHING to get the rabbit to come back to her cage, but she just wouldn't. Julia's sister Lena ended up catching her with a rather spectacular flying tackle that I wish I would have gotten on video or photo, because it was hilarious. Later that night I joked that the rabbit didn't come in because I was there.
*Another Julia story - when I moved in there for a temporary time during my host family switch, all of her siblings became quite attached to me. (Her 16 year old brother probably in a not-so-innocent way, but...he was cute, so that was okay ;) ) Anyway, her little brothers Johannes (also cute, but not a male nurse, and he was only 9) and Jonah liked to have bedtime stories read to them before they would go to sleep. Their mother normally did it, but the whole time I was there they always asked me to do it. I did, of course, but it was a riot trying to pick out books that I could actually READ because at that point my German was far less than stellar (even more so then it is now...). Usually I would end up reading the same book every night, because it was one of the few I could read.
(Telling these stories makes me realize how much I miss Julia's house :( )
*At my OSK, Natalie and I were pretty good friends. We hung out every Friday after OSK class, and one Friday it was particularly rainy and muggy. As I was walking her back to her house (About a 2 mile haul, but not so bad), we kept seeing the GIANT German slugs. Anyone who has been here knows what I am talking about. Those acid orange slugs that get up to 6 inches long. We had to stop at least 10 times so Natalie could get pictures of them. I didn't have my camera with me, otherwise I probably would have too. Another funny thing about this time was that I was in my Sponge Bob PJ pants because my other pants had gotten SOAKED in the rain, and a pink hoodie, so I stuck out like a sore thumb. When I was walking about to my house alone, I got honked at or hollered at a lot. I guess the Germans have never seen someone walking in their PJ pants before?
All right, those are all that I'll tell for now. Hope you liked ;)
