o, all in all, definitely not my favorite episode. But I have to admit, that after loving "My two Dads" so much, I was pretty sure I would be disappointed in the next one. Ditto. I knew the episode would be a let down after last weeks. I thought the scene by the pool with Sandy was great, as well. Like you said the little things like the touch of the shoulder make me love Sandy more every week.
That shouder touch in combination with Sandy's gentle "Are you okay" and Ryan's confession that he has been better (and that wounded/confused/asking for guidance look on Ryan's face) catapulted the scene among my top ten O.C. scenes, I think. It was nothing big, but that's exactly the reason why I liked it so much.
Ditto. I knew the episode would be a let down after last weeks. I guess we have to accept, that not each episode can be Ryan and family centric. But I wish it would.
I am clearly shallow, because I liked pretty much everything, except the French stereotyping - not cool- and just turned a blind eye to the utter daftness of Taylor becoming the darling of 'Je pense' mind you the things people become celebs for here, maybe it wasn't so daft at all.
I actually envy that you enjoyed the episode. I tried hard to like it, but I just didn't.
Mhm, you're probably right about the celeb thing, though I'd like to think that this is more a pop culture thing and does not happen that fast in intellectual, philisophical talk shows, but you never know.
I also loved the Ryan/Sandy moments. It's always good to look back and see how far Ryan's moved on since those early days. And none more noticeable than the issue about the intellectualism storyline. I liked the episode (but there's only ever been one episode that I truly disliked so that's not meaning much).
While this was one of the less liked S4 episodes for me (together with "Earth girls"), it still tops most of S2 and 3 for me, so I better not complain.
It has never been more obvious that Sandy and Ryan are really father and son by now. I love them.
You were actually more generous toward this episode than I was, even though our reactions to it were basically the same. Clearly I'm just too critical.
I do love your analysis of the pool scene, and like you I hope we get more like it in the limited time left.
I tried to be positive on the episode, since I get it, they just can't always give us Ryan and the Cohens. They have an audience that watches for S/S or for comedy or you know, simple teenage drama. And after this great, angsty family "Dad" episode, they probably had to satisfy the other part of the audience now.
But now it's our turn again - for the rest of the season!
Damn LJ ate my LONG comment. I've had it. I agree on many levels. Way too much Taylor. No secondary character like her should be in the teaser and ending.
Loved Ryan/Sandy.
Irritated with Kirsten for valuing federal law more than Ryan with Julie.
Over tertiary characters like H.M. and Mumbles wasting screentime. Get rid of them.
Loved Ben showing how hurt Ryan was during the marathon, rude, French-spoken, pretentious dinner.
J.J. should be allowed to write lines, not scenes and never an episode.
