I decided to experiment a little bit with my next shawl, so I picked out a lace pattern - "Gull Wing" - and made it a slightly different shape by increasing eight stitches every two rows. I had three spines with two increases on either side of a center stitch, with the thought that they'd arrange to be one spine down the back and one across the top of each shoulder.
The end result is a semi-square, with the three spines and the edges making the diagonals. I need to re-block the shawl so that the back sides aren't so pulled taught, since there's a color difference from the front sections to the back just from sheer density of the fabric.
It took two skeins of Socks That Rock Lightweight in Pepe Le Plume, which is a fun black-pink-purple multicolor. I knit all of the first skein in plain stockinette with just the increases and did the lace pattern on the edge. I like the balance of the lace section to the plain.
