I took a break to post some non-Supernatural entries, but I'm back. I have only five more episodes to go and I'll be finished with season three.
Covered here are my thoughts on Sin City, Bedtime Stories, Red Sky at Morning, Fresh Blood, A Very Supernatural Christmas, Malleus Malificarum, Dream a Little Dream of Me, and Mystery Spot.
SIN CITY - I loved that the motel had a Magic Fingers bed and the way Dean's eyes lit up when he saw it. They must have put out a casting call for a lot of very sexy women. I liked Casey's line, "Dick Cheney has a special parking place in hell." (I can't stand that man.) I figured out pretty quickly that the priest was a demon. I thought this was just an OK episode.
BEDTIME STORIES - I always enjoy a story based on fairytales. I thought for sure the piece of heavy equipment at the beginning was going to come alive--a la Stephen King--and go after someone. Pretty cool that Sandra McCoy, Sam's RL girlfriend at the time and for several years, played the crossroads demon. I thought she was a pretty good actress. It didn't end as I'd expected and Sam couldn't get Dean's deal reversed. Interesting episode.
RED SKY AT MORNING - Oh, the boys in tuxes was pretty yummy. I thought Gert, the old woman, being all over Sam was hilarious and Sam looked sooo uncomfortable. Fun episode.
FRESH BLOOD - It was pretty scary with the infra red photography and Sam not being able to see where he was going. Not at all helpful when someone like Gordon is after him. It was so sad when Sam was begging Dean to give up his stoic I-don't-care-about-anything-anymore attitude and be his brother again. I have a feeling there are going to be more scenes like that before Dean gets out of the deal with the demon which, of course, I know he's going to do somehow.
A VERY SUPERNATURAL CHRISTMAS - This episode was wonderful. I loved the Cunninghams, but I'm certainly glad my house doesn't have a fireplace. We have a
Santa's Village near when I live in New Hampshire. It creeped me out when Mr. Cunningham pulled out Sam's fingernail. ewww! The boys who played young Dean and Sam were so cute and the one playing Sam really looked a lot like adult Sam...same cute nose. The older boy has played young Dean before. Now I know how Dean got the amulet he wears throughout most of the series. This episode made me cry. :'(
MALLEUS MALIFICARUM - OMG! All those teeth falling out. Gross! And the plate of maggoty food! Super gross! Some great fight scenes and what a tough female demon witch. I learned more about what Ruby used to be. I love stories about witches. Great episode.
DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME - Lots of Bobby in this episode and that's always nice. I love that the cinematographer on this show uses so many extreme closeups. This was the first time I noticed Dean using his ring to open a beer bottle. I loved the scenes with Dean confronting himself and their fight scene. Jensen did a wonderful job of acting to make the two Deans so subtly different. Great episode.
MYSTERY SPOT - Wow! This has to be in the top five episodes I've seen so far. I love the band Asia and I'll never hear "Heat of the Moment" again without thinking of "Supernatural." Sam's expressions were priceless when everything kept happening over and over. I know it wasn't really funny, but I cracked up when that desk fell on Dean. It was straight out of a Wile E. Coyote cartoon. Boy! Sam really looked quite threatening in the scenes where he was out hunting alone. I didn't think of the Trickster, but I knew that wasn't going to be the real Bobby before Sam killed him. So glad the Trickster is back! \o/
That's all folks!
