as a child, he never dreamed of seeing his name in lights, much less his face on an ad in times square, but somehow things had turned out that way, and he can't say he's embarrassed. the only thing about being so far away from home, though, is that everything he's ever been comfortable around is too far out of reach for his liking.
two weeks into filming his latest movie, he receives a phone call.
'mr. kim. there's someone on the line for you. he says it's urgent.'
his head is pounding and he can't find his aspirin, but he's never been one to refuse a phone call if he could help it. 'it's rude,' he told his assistant, the first time she asked. she's a city girl, always busy, always on the run, and doesn't understand small town etiquette.
'hello?'
'kibum!' a familiar voice calls to him on the other end and his fingers reflexively grip tighter around the reciver. 'kibum, guess where i am!'
'where are you, donghae?' a smile is quirking at his lips; he's almost one hundred percent certain that his best friend has somehow gotten himself into another fix.
'jail. but i didn't do anything wrong! well maybe i did, i don't know, he was asking for it. i was trying to surprise you but they wouldn't let me on set, said it was closed off or something. but if i called, then it wouldn't be a surprise, right? well anyway, i guess you're probably surprised now, either way, so-'
he never was one to laugh much, but his lips are spread in a wide grin at the fragments of donghae's story he can catch while the other boy is babbling on the other line. 'don't worry about it, i'll come spring you. we just finished shooting for today, anyway.'
'you're the best!' donghae practically screeches, and he has to hold the receiver away from his ear.
'see you soon.'
