TITLE: XOXO
PAIRING: platonic Shige/Koyama
RATING: G
SUMMARY: Shige and Koyama have kissed three times.
NOTES: Totally thought this up while watching The Office. I think, for some weird reason, I see the Jim/Pam dynamic as being sort of Shige/Koyama-like.
The first time Shige and Koyama kiss, Shige is 15 and Koyama is 18.
They're having a sleepover, one that Koyama's high school friends find odd because, dude, why are you so tight with a middle schooler?, and Shige's middle school friends think, katou-kun is so mature, i suppose it's not hard for you to relate with high schoolers.
Nyanta's scratching at the door, because he wants to sleep at the end of Koyama's futon, but Shige has allergies, and with a heavy heart, Koyama closed the door in Nyanta's face. They're curled up in seperate futons, laid out on the floor next to each other, idly kicking and punching each other while they talk late into the night. The strikes increase in strength with each attack, and the two boys - neither with a brother, some what unused to this sibling rivalry-sort of affection - can't help but start wrestling and knocking into desks and shelves.
It's actually sort of a miracle that they don't wake up Koyama's mother or sister.
And in their struggling, Koyama's knee slips on the blanket, tossing his weight forward, and he ends up very close to Shige's face. They both react to it - in the same way. Shige sort of butts his head to the right, and Koyama goes to the left. Shige's right.
And that's how Koyama ends up, very lightly, kissing the bridge of Shige's nose.
Koyama isn't even completely aware of it happening until Shige squawks and pulls aways, face and neck and ears bright red, a hint of perspiration around his hair line. Koyama laughs, leans back himself and uses the opportunity to smack Shige with a pillow.
The second time Shige and Koyama kiss, Shige is 17 and Koyama is 20.
NEWS is awkward and tense and no one knows what to do about it. Nishikido and Uchi are lacking in patience for the less experienced members of the group, and Yamashita is lacking the will to be an effective leader for the group.
And that does not bode well for Shige.
He isn't a good dancer - every one is well aware of that, even Shige. Which is why he doesn't argue or complain when he's put in the very back row of the dance formation with Tegoshi. It makes perfect sense, Shige thinks. But as they practice, there's a huge mirror in front of them, and Nishikido can see every single one of Shige's mistakes. And he lets Shige know about each and every one, in the most blunt of terms.
Considering, Shige takes the harsh criticism quite well. He listens, nodding and apologizing when necessary. A few minutes later, when they get a break, Shige calmly walks out of the dance studio and once Koyama realizes he's missing (Kusano's antics can be very distracting), he goes out in search of Shige.
He's in the bathroom, splashing water over his face. Koyama can't read anything from his body language, but when Shige looks up, and catches Koyama's eyes in the mirror, it's obvious that Shige's fighting a losing battle with himself.
"Shige," Koyama says in a whisper, like anything louder than that will break Shige's resolve.
"Get out," he croaks, voice tight and wavering.
But he doesn't, instead, Koyama takes the few steps closer to Shige and wraps a soft hand around Shige's wrist. Shige hiccups.
"You should let it all out."
"No."
But Shige's a hypocrite, because within a few seconds he's pressing his forehead into Koyama's collarbone and chocking on his own breaths.
"Don't take it to heart so much, Shige. Nishikido-kun doesn't even mean half of the things he says. Just tune him out."
"How?"
But Koyama doesn't know, because he finds himself nearly as often as Shige being the recipient of Nishikido's stressed rage, and there doesn't seem to be any technique at all that successfully tunes out Nishikido. So, Koyama just pats Shige's back, and after a moment, kisses the top of Shige's head, and even though it's kind of gross, rests his cheek on Shige's mat of sweaty hair.
"We'll get through this."
The third time they kiss, Shige is 20 and Koyama is 23.
They're out drinking, as young men are wont to do. Masuda keeps ordering food from the menu, Yamashita is typing away on his cellphone, Nishikido and Tegoshi are talking about The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Koyama's smiling, happy that for once, there's a night where they're all free. And Shige, out of all the six of them, is the drunkest. By far, the drunkest. It's not that the others aren't trying though. But Masuda eating so much, and Tegoshi hasn't developed a taste for alcohol yet, and Yamashita and Nishikido have a good buzz going, and that's all that really matters to them, and Koyama's not a big drinker to begin with anyways. Which leaves Shige.
He's flushed, lop-sided grin, rambling about everything. The poor lighting in the pub, Masuda's checkered hoodie, Nishikido's new drama. Koyama is only half listening, and doesn't pick up when Shige stops talking. And without any warning at all, Shige's half sitting in his lap, pressing his face into Koyama's shoulder.
"What's wrong with Shige?" Tegoshi asks.
"Who cares?" Nishikido replies, but he still looks a little concerned.
Shige pulls back from Koyama's shoulder, eyes suspiciously watery before he yells, "I love you!" and presses a wet kiss to Koyama's cheek.
Koyama screams, Nishikido and Tegoshi laugh. Masuda is too distracted by the arrival of the tenpura platter and Yamashita doesn't know what's happening, because he'd been on his phone the whole time.
But before Koyama can punch Shige in the face, or laugh it off, Shige's stumbling up and pulling Tegoshi into a tight hug and, again, loudly declaring his love. Nishikido tries to fight Shige off, but when a fat tear rolls down Shige's cheek, he gives up and lets Shige hug him. Masuda puts up no fight, and feeds Shige a tenpura shrimp as he pulls away, and Yamashita ruffles Shige's hair.
