This reminds me of a story about Gandhi, or rather a Hindu man who asked Gandhi's advice. This Hindu was so impressed with Gandhi and his peaceful life he confessed a great sin to Gandhi. The man had killed a Muslim man and the murder was eating away at him with the guilt. The man begged Gandhi for help and forgiveness. Gandhi told the man his crime was horrible but to try to make some amends for it the man must take an orphaned Muslim child and raise the child as a Muslim not a Hindu.
(I am not comparing you to the Hindu man only that you both are seeking redemption and forgiveness)
I think we are all capable of evil as well as good. And you are a good person and I hope you find your redemption and forgive yourself ((HUGS))
