She rapped on the door frame to let Fawn know she was there and said, "Hey! How's it going?"

The light knocking on the door frame made her draw in a breath, but the voice that followed had everything--fists, lips, eyes, even her toes--clenching a little. Trying to blink away the tears in her eyes would probably only make them worse, and that was the last thing she'd want Petra to see.
"Hey," she said, a little more quietly than she wanted. She didn't move except lifting a hand in a half-hearted wave, wanting to seem wholly apathetic or maybe tired. "Okay, I guess."
There was a pause of hesitation or debate before she added, "How's it going with you?"
