For those who’ve come in late: I have a daughter. From Christmas of the year she was six years old, until recently, we were estranged. Not a part of each others lives. A couple of years ago, it seemed like every other or at least every third post I wrote was about how I missed her.

I have two very special women in my life. I am so incredibly blessed and so fortunate...and then there are the Cats...three of them. They got me a new Fountain Pen! How cool is that?

I'm in the process of my own post regarding Father's Day...you see, I'm on the other side of the table. Father's Day is, and always has been a complicated mess for me. To see that there are fathers out there that keep working to wedge that door open for their children is good for my heart. I don't hold out a lot of hope where my own father is concerned, as I've never gotten the impression that he gave a damn. My mother was very careful to never poison the well, and always made it clear that my father could be a part of my life if he chose. He has not.
I am so very glad for both of you. The relationship between a father and a daughter is one of the most important in the world, and I applaud you for tending that so that it has survived.
I wish you a lifetime of shared happiness, and a wonderful Father's Day!

Mark, I have to say that I am delighted to hear this. Happy for you, and your daughter. I have a long history of bad news and twisted tales where my father is concerned but can honestly say that I never stopped loving him, ever. I know how much I used to wonder, hurt, pine after, and cry about his and my relationship. You have a gift there my friend and I can see that you have accepted it as such. Good for you. Happy Father's day, to you both.
