Nearly stepped into traffic one day,
But my feet strangely whisked me away.
The proof is empirical,

I had sensible shoes on today!

Depends on whose feet those shoes are on. On my wife's feet, six inch heels would entail a trip to the hospital as she would no doubt fall on her ass and hurt herself. It's just who she is.
