Writer's Block: Career paths

Dec 20, 2011 22:22

I would wish to be a writer.

I would not require a garrett, nor a small outbuilding with a stove for warmth.  A small desk with room for my tools and a paper plate for peanut butter sammiches and carrot sticks to gnaw while spilling forth more words.

And when I was a kid, I wanted to be Spider-Man.

Thank you, Penny.

However, I'd like to get paid for it. Make a living from it.

Well, you sold poetry this summer, right ? You'll get there. You have the talent and so many great inspirations.

I got a royalty check recently. For a poem that appeared in The American Zig-Zag, Volume One that was released around this time last year (Volume Two is due this spring). It wasn't enough to take the two of us to McDonald's....

So yes, I did sell some poetry and I have made a few dollars, I cannot live on what I've made from selling a few poetry books. And there's isn't much money to be made in poetry anyhow...

But thanks. You are most kind and very sweet. I'm glad I know you.
