Well, I would have suggested a MacBook Pro with Core 2 Duo and otherwise the same specs as below, except a lot of the CAD and modeling stuff she wants to do sounds like it's in Windows-specific software. You can run Windows on a MacBook Pro, but if the core of her life will be in Windows, that's not the best solution for her. And an iBook (obsolete, can't run Windows natively because it doesn't have an Intel processor) or a MacBook (low-end Intel hardware) wouldn't have the high-end graphics.

She wants a Sony Vaio with the fastest Core 2 Duo processor, most RAM (2GB or more), biggest hard drive (160 GB or bigger), and best graphics card (such as nVIDIA GeForce) she can afford. Sony is like Apple in that, when you buy a laptop, you won't tend to realize the next day they've left the USB ports off that model, or something like that. They make good, solid, sleek, high-end laptops with everything built in. Also, they have support in Argentina.

mrrow? I've never needed anything on my Mac that wasn't already provided, usually in duplicate, and without needing bulky, breakable add-on parts. Having worked with both worlds extensively - Mac has it all over PC in out-of-the-box utility and long-term viability before needing massive upgrades.

I agree completely! Macs are the way to go, especially for high-end graphics, except in the rare instance that a lot of what you need to do requires Windows applications.

I'm looking for something similar (going to have to support a jewelry related graphics program) this fall toward Christmas. In my research, I also decided on a MAC. For the upgrades necessary to make it graphics suitable, Apple puts the best standard equipment in, which means less cost for the appropriate upgrades (hard drive, processor and RAM).

I don't need graphics as bad as she does, but I'm looking at the I-book, too.

I agree with whomever suggests a Mac iBook.

She could do what everyone else who doesn't know computers but has high demands and too much money does... go to best buy and buy the most expensive Alienware.

I'm not recommending that, just saying...
