facing the music (closed to Erica)

John's battered. He's got a black eye, bruised ribs, possibly a cracked one, and a split and swollen lip. He's also obviously exhausted as he comes through the door. That's good, that means he might actually be able to sleep tonight -- probably on the couch, he reflects.

Erica is very nearly ready to go out and look for John herself. Since she's known him, he's never worked so late that even she's ready to go to bed. But she can't sleep. She's tense and drawing conclusions - it would figure that John's 'working' late after she's had her talk with Juliet. And Erica doesn't believe in coincidence.

So when she finally hears him come in, she leaves their bedroom and goes to greet him, though she stops as soon as she flips on the light and sees him. And she doesn't say a word. Just stares.

He doesn't say anything either. He blinks at the sudden light, then, expressionless locks his gun up, tiptoes in to check on the kids (all three of them) then comes back into the kitchen area to pour himself a glass of water, which he downs with a couple of tylenol. He makes an icebag for himself, then holding it to his eye, faces her.

"Hi."

"What happened to you?" she asks, skipping formality.

"I got in a fight -- on purpose." No formality from him either.
