6/50 random word prompt: throne
-------------------------
Jeongguk feels like he's in Hell. Although he has servants running around the kingdom like headless chickens trying to prepare for his crowning, Jeongguk feels empty and lifeless. The long war for the throne has finally ended with Jeongguk being victorious and streets are finally filled with patrons again, smiles on faces and laughter heard.
"Your majesty, why do you have a frown on your face?" Jimin asks, on his knees beside Jeongguk. "China is finally at peace, yet you sit here, getting ready for your crowning with an expression as if you've lost everything."
Jeongguk gestures for the rest of the servants to leave and stays silent until the last one walks out. He sighs and gets up from his seat to make his way in front of a full body length mirror. "I have lost the thing that matters to me the most, Jimin," he finally replies.
"You are about to become Emperor, My Lord. A goal that you've set for yourself since you were a young child. I do not understand."
"But I've lost the love of my life, Taehyung," Jeongguk says, fists curling to try and fight the tears from falling. A man never cries in front of others.
Jimin stays quiet for a couple of minutes, allowing Jeongguk to collect himself before responding. "Lady Taehyung sacrificed herself to help you reach this goal, My Lord. Please keep that in mind and make her proud."
"How can I protect and run a country when I can't even protect the one who matters most to me?" Jeongguk shouts and punches the mirror, ignoring the shards of glass and the pain coming from his wounded hand.
Jimin quickly grabs his silk handkerchief from his pocket and wraps it around Jeongguk's injured hand, knowing Jeongguk would not like to alarm the rest of the palace. "My Lord, I would like it if you did not hurt yourself like that ever again. Lady Taehyung would hate for that, and I would hate for my head to roll on the ground because of your carelessness."
At that, Jeongguk allows a smile to grace his face for the first time since Taehyung died. "She told you to put me in my place, didn't she?"
Jimin nods and secures the handkerchief tightly around Jeongguk's hand. "Lady Taehyung knew you the best and as you know her better than anyone. Make her proud, My Lord."
