Dick is not a coward. He’s not. If he was he would never brave a tight rope fifty feet in the air, or become Batman’s sidekick. He knew everything that came along with being the Dark Knight’s partner. He knew how Gotham was and he knew he’d face rapists and murderers. He was ready. He could take them all on.
But, despite all his bravery, the child couldn’t help but get squeamish the first time he met the Joker.
At nine he saw the broken rag doll bodies of his parents splattered below him so it never registered in Dick’s mind that it could be worse. Not until- at nine and a half- he convinced Bruce to let him face the Joker for the very first time. It took a lot of begging (and crocodile tears) but the strict adoptive father finally agreed.
There was blood everywhere. If he didn’t know better- if the iron in the air wasn’t so strong- Dick would just assume the walls had been painted a dark red. And they had, technically ( ... )

Robin wasn’t nervous. The Boy Wonder didn’t get nervous, it just wasn’t his thing. So, nope, he’s not nervous. Not at all. He’s just simply fidgeting because…. Well because he felt like it! Yeah, that makes sense, right?
“Robin, relax.” The blue eyes widened under the bird’s domino mask, the orbs darting to his mentor’s face. Batman was giving him a quizzical look. “No need to be nervous.”
“I’m not nervous!” Dick protested a bit too loud and a smirk ran across Batman’s face before he stilled it.
“It’s natural. You’re going to meet the Justice League. That can be… intimidating.”
Intimidating? He was going to meet Superman. Superman! The strongest man to ever live. And Wonder Woman! The gorgeous goddess that somehow made his adoptive dad actually blush and whether it was because of anger or (bleh) lust it still freaked the young acrobat out..
