There’s a sharp pain in his stomach as Artemis hits him- hard. “We’re all worried and that’s all you’ve got to say!?” she snaps.
Superboy’s helping him to sit up and Wally’s trying to catch his bearings. Artemis is scowling off to his right, M’gann is smiling at him and right behind her Kaldur is looking at him in concern. So where’s Robin? He turns to his left and Robin’s sitting there calmly, his face mostly impassive. For a moment they look at each other, “So what were you saying?”
Wally blinks owlishly, “Um…what?”
“Towards the end, we…” Robin pauses- and Wally suddenly realizes that his conversation might’ve been broadcasted to the others and not JUST Robin- “M’gann couldn’t hold on and you were cut off at the end. What were you saying?”
Robin sounds genuinely curious and honest and Wally realizes that his newest attempt at confessing didn’t work. “N-nothing. Just,” Wally says the first thing that comes to mind, “I was whelmed is all, was just talking nonsense.”
Before Robin can respond to that Wally stands up. Blood rushes ( ... )

If he’d known what he’d been getting himself into he would’ve said no. Wally nervously scanned the crowd from his spot on the steps and slowly let himself start to panic when he failed to see any sign of Dick. If he wasn’t so worried and stressed he might’ve felt a little angrier at having been ditched in the middle of a crowd like this. After all, Dick had been the one who invited him here in the first place and who left their da-friend in the middle of a crowd like this, for no explanation.
It had taken Wally almost ten minutes to escape from the crowd- mostly because he was getting nervous and when he got nervous he started speeding up and that probably wouldn’t be good in a crowd like this. So here he was at the top of the stairs trying vainly to see if he could find Dick. Just as Wally was starting to think that maybe he should try braving the crowd and searching in person, he heard his name. It took him less than a second to find Dick- it was fairly easy now considering he was waving and pushing through the crowd.

“Let’s go up to the top of the stairs, no one’s up there and it’s quieter anyways.”
He didn’t even get to have a say, Barbara grabbed his hand and tugged him up the stairs. Reaching the top Wally turned and looked down at the crowd. Was that even a proper word for this thing? The whole floor was covered in people, they were everywhere and they spilled into the surrounding rooms and it was amazing how fancy they all looked. Black suits and dresses all different colors of the rainbow, low dimmed lights and some music he couldn’t make out helped make the atmosphere one of relaxation. But the late hour and the copious amounts of alcohol made anyone older than 21 pretty much drunk- Bruce served a lot of strong stuff at his parties. Was party even the right word? There were so many people here Wally was starting to think that maybe Bruce’s party was in need of its own zip code or something. “It’s nice isn’t it?”
Sparing a look at Barbara he shrugged, “I guess.”
Barbara sighed and leaned against the railing, “Do you not like me or ( ... )

It was salmon. Devouring the food Wally found one thing to like about this ridiculous party, the snacks were pretty good. It was almost as good as Alfred’s or Aunt Iris’s food-almost. Once he was done eating the three of them lapsed into a silence that wasn’t exactly comfortable but it was nowhere near as tense as it’d been down at the bottom of the stairs. Wally was a little more confident that Barbara wouldn’t swoop in and kidnap Dick away. Which was an odd but plausible image now that he really thought about it-Batgirl swooping in and taking Robin away- not to say that it’d ever happen, those two just seemed like really close friends, or so he told himself. Wally let his mind wander for a few seconds or minutes or however long it was, but he was the first one to talk when the silence finally became a bit too much. “So how’d you two meet?”
Dick looked thoughtful for a second, “She’s Commissioner Gordon’s daughter so that made meeting her as Robin pretty easy at times, but that was later. Main thing, she goes to my school,” he ( ... )

“Yeah?” at once all of Dick’s attention was on him.
He couldn’t mess this up…right? “So I’ve been trying to tell you something really important, but…every time I keep getting interrupted so I’m just going to say it,” Wally took a deep breath, “Dick I really like you, I mean really like you. I…would you-“
With a series of loud popping noises the light bulbs shattered and the whole yard was engulfed in darkness. Wally blinked rapidly, trying to adjust his eyes to what little light there was but with cloud cover and the house being so far from any real street lights the area was pretty dang dark. From inside he could hear muttered swearwords, the voice sounded familiar. “Barbara?”
Wally’s eyes were assaulted by the sudden appearance of a flashlight; squinting he turned and saw Dick give sheepish smile, “Never leave home without it?” Wally asked blankly, eyeing the small glint of gold that was hidden away under Dick’s clothes as he spoke.
“Never,” Dick confirmed with a small smile, pushing open the door and the two of them stepped ( ... )

He started down but Barbara stayed at the top, it didn’t take long to notice considering she was his light source. Pausing he looked at her, “Aren’t you coming?”
“You’ve done this a lot, haven’t you?’
Wally frowned, “Done what?”
She smiled faintly, “Tried to confess.”
“Oh,” Wally scowled, and turned to look down the stairs at the lights, “Yeah…I have.”
Barbara walked down and hesitantly placed her hand on his shoulder, “You’ll get through someday, and I know he’ll accept,” she paused, “It’s just bad luck.”
When Wally didn’t say anything Barbara removed her hand and headed down the stairs. For a moment longer Wally remained where he was before with a sigh he followed after her. At the bottom of the stairs there was a collection of police men that had been at the party- off duty- and Barbara’s dad. Wally managed to smile through the whole thing; even if his smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. He wasn’t quite sure this was just bad luck.
The power outage remained a mystery for that night and the party was called to a close. It was ( ... )
