I am REALLY, REALLY SORRY about taking so long, guys, and about not being around much recently. I've been busier than I have in a while, and it just kept slipping my mind between uni applications and volunteering and all sorts- for some reason I thought we were much further off a new post.

Vague Spoilers for "Insecurity"

So, as of "Insecurity" it's come to my attention that Artemis seems to have major abandonment issues. That's the second time shes freaked out over whether the team is being abandoned, first in "Humanity", with Red Tornado ("Is he abandoning us?") and now with Red Arrow ("You're abandoning-" "I'm prioritizing!").

Looking back on it, it seems as if is should be really obvious, considering: Her Mother got sent to Jail for years, while she was gone her sister left her alone with her Father, and while she definitely has issues with her dad, he still was the only one she had for years, and when her mother got out of jail, he left her too. Nothing is constant is Artemis's life.

Can we please have fic exploring this?

We're falling through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world. And, if we let go...

Wally kisses her.

Wally kisses her, and she can barely breathe, because...

She really doesn't like Wally that way.

She thinks perhaps she should. She can see their chemistry boiling away, only helped along by the fumes of UST and the constant explosions of snark.

But she isn't attracted to him. He's too incendiary. He'll go up in smoke and drift away on the wind. Too akin to the wind, too ready to slip through her fingers before she has a chance to get a good grip, too likely to slip away even if, by some miracle, she does.

She wishes he more like Kaldur. Understated beauty, and loyal. Steadfast, there, like the earth even if he comes from the water. The earth that has never abandoned her, unlike everything else.

She reminds herself that the team hasn't abandoned her.

Yet.

She gets nightmares sometimes, of them finding out, accusing, pointing fingers

By the way, I love Spitfire, it just simply doesn't work with this fill.
And, uh, quote may not be exactly related? /: Mostly I meant to convey that nothing's very stable for Artemis, everything's spinning away and she has to fight hard to stay exactly where she is.

Oh, wow. Oh ouch. Oh Artemis, honey.

Thank you for this. I like the way the quote fits into it, so don't worry about that. And I loved the comparison of Wally and Kaldur, how Wally feels fleeting to her and Kaldur is so steady, and how Artemis can't like Wally that way, because her fears make it impossible for her to even consider it. And the nightmare bit was heartbreaking.

Great character piece. You managed to convey a lot in few words. Thank you.
