He has fifty-thousand questions to ask her, and sixty-thousand questions he wants answered, but he can’t seem to find any of the answers he seeks no matter where he looks, and he doesn’t ask Artemis herself because it seems like the kind of thing he’s not supposed to talk about. Mostly he keeps his mouth shut about it; he’s sure she only told him because secrets eat at the heart, and Robin is supposed to be good at keeping secrets.

But this one eats away at him, too.

He doesn’t understand why she did it, what Artemis could have wanted so much to trade her life away for, because what she had now doesn’t seem like it’s post-Wish. One day, he’s out with Batman patrolling the streets, and he’s finally managed to get the witches out of his head when he hears her, he hears Kyubey speak something in her head but he can hear it, too, and he’s scared ****less because these are demons of another world, a secret in Gotham that not even Batman knows about and Robin can’t even tell him ( ... )

He’s stupid and dumb and pathetic and he never should’ve-

Bruce is dying.

“I don’t care, just save him, I’ll do anything, he’s the only one left, I'll make the stupid contract-”

His voice breaks with his resolve.Bruce is angry with him when he finds out. Because he finds out. He always does. Artemis is there, too, and she’s quiet, ominously quiet, as she watches father and son.

“I couldn’t lose you!”

“Well, you lost.”

He’s careful with what he does after that-he falls, further and further into a despair but he’s a knight now, and he battles the enemies that Bruce can’t see, and there’s-

Well, there’s tears, and he’s off balance and sleepless and Artemis thinks she understands but she doesn’t, and he’s not part of a team anymore, it’s just him, just a fourteen-year-old boy who goes by Nightwing and carries regrets but doesn’t know if he regrets anything.It happens when he sees the new boy die ( ... )

Any of the guys on the team (+Roy) comes out as a transwoman.

They're still into girls, though, because gender and sexuality have nothing to do with each other.

Bonus, the line "I liked girls when the world thought I was a boy, why should I stop now?" or equivalent.

One of these pairings preferred, please.
