This image is my second for i_reversebang. I want to say a thousand heartfelt thanks to chibi_lurrel for last-minute pinch-hitting for me. Her fic can be found here. Beneath the cut (with a warning for huge size and minor blood) is



Although I ended up posting this second, this image was actually the first I came up with an the one for which I had a more distinct vision. Probably 30 hours of solid work went into this painting, and it's without a doubt the most ambitious piece I've worked on in a long time. For the past few years I've been on a quest to deal with setting, place, surroundings as integral parts of my illustrations and worlds, not just "backgrounds" to showcase the characters, but characters themselves. I think that may have almost been more evident in my other piece, because that piece was far more contingent on mood, but with this image I definitely created an environment which I felt was as well-rounded as I wanted it to be. This painting was created with graphite, ink, watercolor, white gel pen, colored pencil, and acrylic on 18x24" Stonehenge paper. If you have any questions about process or intent, please feel free to leave them here.
