Most oral contraceptives actually prevent ovulation - which is the natural period of "heat" in women. By eliminating this, we actually make women less sexually aroused. The hormone that has the most effect on sexual arousal is testosterone - in men and women free-testosterone is associated with sexual desire. Any addition of estrogen or progesterone will work against that testosterone.

Not that I know a whole lot about this, but both estrogen/progesterone and testosterone use the same cellular chemical receptor. If you give someone an excess of one, the level of the other stay the same but becomes less effective as it's overwhelmed by the presence of the other.
