Paper

I hate it how when the rest of the world uses A4 sized paper and two/four hole punches, in the US for some spurious reason they insist on using letter-sized paper and three hole punches ... thus making things interesting if I find that I need to print out journal papers out when I'm in Hong Kong.

But... what about the three-ringed binders? :D canadianyams December 7 2004, 21:34:45 UTC
We do that here in Canada too. And let me tell you, it was an absolute pain when I worked at the Staples Copy Centre to try and make A4 documents into Letter ones for people. Not fun at all!

A4: it's even better than you thought.

I know that, and I really would prefer A4. Unfortunately, my office printer and all my lecture handouts, and things like that, are always stocked with letter paper only (i.e. I'd have to make special efforts to source and print out stuff and it's not feasible or economical to print everything on my personal inkjet). And I can't just go to the bookstore and buy suitable files. :-P Pain in the neck, but I'm pretty much using a batch of letter-size 3-ring binders.

But eh, it's not the only thing that they insist on being unique about ;-)
