Hi everyone! :) This is a translation of the well-known An Act Of Charity, written by the amazing Wordstrings. I have no idea why I'm posting it on LiveJournal since there are perhaps 0,1% of the French fandom in here, but I thought it could interest someone learning French to read it in parallel to the original?
Anyway if you can read French and ( Read more... )

great job! i remember reading this in english a while back and i can definitely see how well translated some of the lines i remember are. there were a couple spots where i think you forgot to translate a word, unless self control is also a valid term in french :) and there was an "and" somewhere in the italics that should have been switched to an "et"... i really love reading fanfic in french, even though it's so rare. would you consider doing more translations? :D

Hi! Thank you so so much for the kind comment, it means a lot! I'm glad this was useful to anyone lol.

There are hundreds of notions that don't have a translation in French, sadly, and self-control is one of them, and as the English term is often used as it is I did as well :D but I'll track the "and" I forgot, thanks a lot for the heads-up! I swear I always do this...

I wanted to keep translating the Paradox Series, but I lost the 8 word pages I had already translated a few months back when my computer crashed and I've been pretty discouraged ever since, so I don't know...That said I'll warn you here if I do any more, and if you have something in mind shorter than about 8000 words I can probably translate it in an evening, so don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks again for the lovely comment!
Hugs :)

ouch that sucks :( i feel like i constantly hear about fanfic writers having their computers go crazy on them. i completely understand why that would be discouraging...still, your translations are really top-notch--it would be a shame not to continue! i'll be looking out for them :) i've always thought translation was pretty interesting...it's a lot harder than it looks at first glance, since it's not just about being bilingual, but also about choosing words that truly reflect the tone and style of the original.
