I got here through theFerret. I enthusiastically agree with your perspective.
I'm 56 and an active leatherdyke with a phenomenal life. Age is just a number. I've met many people in their 40s who are already older than I will ever be.
I gave up a child 35 years ago because I did not think I had the capacity to parent her - and I greatly admire people who actively take on the task.
While I have managed to sustain a lifestyle that we associate with younger people, the social contracts out in the social hinterlands of my particular constellation of subcultures are quite different than they are in more mainstream culture. This comment in no way constitutes disagreement.

I agree about walking our own paths, whatever they are. A quotation I've always liked is "If the heart is afraid to beat for fear of disturbing the liver the organism dies."
