At last! I finally got around to photographing The Calendar, which is a result of the six-week printmaking course that just finished up on the 3rd. It was a personal directions course, meaning we get to develop our own projects rather than follow a set criteria, so I decided to make something functional and decorative.
Twelve linocuts, all hand printed. The month/letter section is an experiment in transfers. Some of them are transferred onto fabric, some are printed directly onto fabric, and others are just printed paper. All of them are machine-sewn onto the prints (which may or may not have been done the night before it was due).
The vegetable corresponds to the month it should be planted (not harvested).
Dad and I tried (note the word "tried") to grow most of these things. We didn't plant celery, but the beans? Did not survive. Fourth graders can grow beans, but not us.
As you can see, December was done quickly. Look at that quality text.
Also, it seems we have adopted another cat? /shame His name is Nipper (which I did not vote for), and he is not a snuggle bunny by any stretch of the imagination. At first Mom told us that he was just hanging around outside, no big deal-but then we learned that she brought him from work because her boss had called animal control when he saw Nipper was sleeping on cars. Our other cats are slowly (note the word "slowly") getting used to him, but he still has his claws so everyone's staying a respectable distance. Including my ankles.
