Tonight the Troll and I marched on Village Inn. The joke is that he takes me to all the nice places, except it's not really a joke because we always end up having a good time wherever we go.
Anyway, we'd spent most of the day discussing how much we wanted some strawberry-rhubarb pie from VI. So after work we drove our happy posteriors down there and had dinner. Sadly, the rhubarb pie would not be available for forty-five minutes; I settled (if you can call ravenous consumption "settling") on pecan and he went with sugar-free apple, because he's diabetic. We ended up discussing the philosophical concepts of luck, chance, and God. I'm not kidding. He used the salt and pepper shakers, plus five empty half-and-half containers, to illustrate his point.
He told me I had to try the cherry pie. So we ordered a piece and split it. The conversation continued through three refills of coffee.
By that time, the rhubarb pie was out of the oven and cooled. So we ordered a piece and split it as well.
Nearly two hours after arriving at the Village Inn, we finally paid our $40.00-ish dollars worth of food and pie (plus tip) and left our good-humored waitress behind. We walked to Best Buy, where he spent an hour agonizing whether to buy a new tablet while I mocked his indecision. He eventually bought the tablet, only to later discover it did not have an SD slot. I laughed at him. Why? Because that's how we roll.
P.S. He called this morning to tell me he was at the Stop 'n Rob buying shrimp crackers and breakfast. He wanted to know if I, too, would like breakfast. I wasn't sure whether to thank him or complain about the shrimp crackers, so I did both.
the troll,
