Sakon's turn!

Japanese script from here.
English script transcribed from the videos uploaded by TinyCaterpillar.

Comrades

Mitsunari: Become my ally, Sakon…
And I will grant you all the riches and land you desire.

Sakon: Keep it for yourself.
I'm here for reasons greater than mere gold.

Mitsunari's second line is more like "I can even give you my entire stipend."

Sakon's line is "It's not the stipend. It's your determination that I've fallen for, my lord."

So I guess Mitsunari was already offering his entire stipend to Sakon since SW2:E days haha. I like Sakon's original response here because it makes it clearer why he's serving Mitsunari. Mitsunari saying that he'll grant Sakon "all the riches and land" he desires makes him sound like a villain trying to tempt the protag of a shounen manga hahaha

The Musician

Sakon: Are you gonna stay inside and work all day again?
What's wrong? Are you sick or something?

Mitsunari: If you're concerned about my health, you should stop that awful racket.

Sakon: I was just playing a little music for you on the biwa.
Didn't you like it?

Mitsunari: I feel sorry for the poor instrument.

Sakon: There we go. I knew I could make you laugh.

The line where Sakon says he's playing the biwa is actually "This is the jabisen, it's popular right now. How's my playing?"

Mitsunari's original response is somewhat kinder, just a "It's bad."

The jabisen is a predecessor of the shamisen, and was introduced to Osaka via the port of Sakai in the early 16th century. I like this little detail since it makes the event less random and also I like the idea of Sakon going about to gather information and bringing make new shiny items to show Mitsunari :D

Sakon Shows No Interest

Shingen: Sakon, you should not focus only on military tactics.
You must be well-versed in government in you wish rule Japan.

Sakon: You're probably right. But I'm not interested in ruling Japan.
I'm content just as long as I'm employed.

Shingen: Then you are wasting your talents, my friend.

The thing about Shingen is that his main motivation, which has remained more or less constant throughout the series, can't be easily translated to english.

First, a bit about 王道 (ōdō) and 覇道 (hadō). I quote from here.

In the Confucian political tradition, ba dao 覇道 (Hegemonic Rule) is commonly identified as a mode of statecraft squarely opposed to the Kingly Way (wang dao 王道), an ideal statecraft relying on virtue and rites… "One who uses force while borrowing from benevolence will become the leader of the feudal lords … [whereas] one who puts benevolence into effect through the transforming influence of moral virtue will become a true King" …

Shingen's motivation is to rule the land in the Kingly Way and he mentions it a lot in his dialogues. The localisations usually translate it as something more generic, such as 'bringing peace to the land' and the like. (This is not a direct quote, I don't remember exactly how they translate it but it was something that didn't really stand out.) A literal translation would be rather awkward here, so I can see why they didn't go with that.

So back to this event, Shingen's line is actually, "Sakon, you shouldn't only focus on strategies. If you don't pay attention to the Kingly Way, you won't rule the land.

And Sakon's response is, "I have no interest in ruling the land. I don't have the capability."

Students of War

Sakon: I've always looked up to you. Someday I hope to master strategy as you have.
It will be an honor to do battle with you.

Shingen: Warfare is a fine art, but there are finer.
If we were students of peace, instead, we could honor each other without battling at all.

Again, Shingen's talking about the Kingly Way here. His reply to Sakon is "If it weren't my strategies that you admire, but the Kingly Way instead, this matter would end without us having to fight…"

A Test of Strategy

Kenshin: Sakon Shima. Allow me to judge the depth of your strategies.

Sakon: The "God of War" would do that for me? Thanks…
But I think handing you a humiliating defeat will be satisfying enough for me.

Sakon's original reply isn't that arrogant. It's more like, "To be judged by the God of War himself, this will be worth the work. Well, some say that it's more than worth the work."

Ogre

Sakon: You're the one they call "devil" right?
You don't look much like a devil to me. An ogre, maybe.

Yoshihiro: Hmm… "Ogre Shimazu." Do you really think that suits me?

Sakon: Well, ogres are big and strong, but they're also dumb, and they eat people.
So, yeah, I think it's a perfect fit!

Again, Sakon's not that much of an ass. The rewrite here also removes one of Yoshihiro's recurring character points, which is his love for gambling. The original is more like:

Sakon: You love fighting and gambling, don't you…?
Well, those aren't hobbies that can be admired.

Yoshihiro: And what about you?

Sakon: I'm not that fond of either.
I'm good at them though.

Mutual Respect

Mitsuhide: Your assistance on this matter was most invaluable.
You are indeed a true leader - the very embodiment of tactical nous and military expertise.

Sakon: Those words could be used to describe yourself as well.
Your decisiveness is especially impressive. Not what I expected from you at all…

This one is close to the original, except that Sakon's last line, "Not what I expected from you at all…" isn't in the original. I think this event might be a historical reference too.

Other characters' events.

The Ladies' Man

Oichi: I've heard you have a weak spot for pretty girls, Sakon Shima.

Sakon: I'm not without my vices, I suppose.
But you needn't keep your guard up around me.
You've had your heart broken plenty already. I'm not interesting in breaking it again.

Femme Fatale

Nō: I've heard rumors of your handsomeness, Sakon. It appears they were true.

Sakon: I've heard rumors about you, too.
They say your beauty is matched only by your deadliness.
Sounds to me like you can give a fellow quite a thrill.

Nō: Oh yes. My looks have been known to kill… but my victims always die happy.

The localised version of the events with Nō and Oichi aren't exactly true to the original, but the overall meaning and tone is close, and I like how they've translated the lines.

Some Scars Might Help

Sakon: It must be hard for you, Ranmaru, trying to act fought with that pretty face of yours.

Ranmaru: Absolutely not! I'm just as much a warrior as anyone else!
My soul is strong! My enemies tremble in the presence of my overwhelming spirit!

Sakon: Right. Y'know, scars are pretty manly. Maybe a couple of those would help.

The localised version of this event is a complete rewrite. This event is actually a follow-up to Ran's event with Mitsunari.
Sakon: Oh… You do well, for someone so pretty.

Ranmaru: Ahh… I see, so that's why Lord Mitsunari…
Lord Sakon, so you are the main culprit.

Sakon: Eh?

A Coward Reformed

Sakon: It's nice to see you again, Ieyasu. It's been a while since Mikatagahara.
I'm looking forward to watching you run away with your tail between your legs like last time.

Ieyasu: I am the coward I was that day no more…
This time I will persevere!
