Also, yes, sometimes it is scary to say I love you, especially if you don't say it usually, and sometimes the other person reacts badly... but to share a little anecdote with you from my very own life:
P. told me he loved me about a month after we started dating, which scared me at the time. The conversation went something like this...
P: "I... I think I love you."
me: "............................. so the funny thing about I love you is, you're never QUITE sure what the other person really means by it, you know?"
P: "Um, yeah, I guess?"
me: "So what do you mean by it?"
P: "I mean I can't stop thinking about you and I really enjoy your company and feel totally at peace with you when we're lying here like this."
me: "In that case, I think I love you, too."
So yay, it can all work out and be shmoopy and cute and smitten even over a year after you start saying you love someone. So don't worry tooooo much.
