read me

pairing: v/jungkook
genre: fluff i guess
summary: taehyung's tried to imagine jeongguk as an open book and the pages are there for him to read, but somehow he always misses what’s in between the lines.

“kim taehyung.”

taehyung freezes, his fingers lingering over the handle of the classroom door, posed to pull it open. but he doesn’t; he knows better. not with who just called his name. his hand drops and he turns around to face the speaker. familiar dark brown hair sweeping across bright eyes and features that appear far too soft when compared to the sharp personality that accompanies them.

taehyung always pretends he hates that face, but his heart skips a beat all the same.

“you’re not going to class today,” jeon jeongguk says, a smirk pulling on his perfect lips. and taehyung has no choice in the matter, he never does. he simply nods in defeat and follows jeongguk away from the room, down the hallway, past students who are doing the right thing and filing into classrooms, taking their seats and waiting for the bell to ring, until they’re climbing the stairs.

“where are we going today?” taehyung asks. he knows the answer, though, and jeongguk just laughs.

“where else would we be going, dumbass?” taehyung also pretends he hates the way jeongguk’s voice plays piano keys down his spine, but the shiver that follows is always inevitable.

they reach the roof in under two minutes and jeongguk picks the lock in less than one. then he’s forcing taehyung into a seated position in the farthest corner and laying down so that his head is rested in taehyung’s lap.

taehyung is glad the weather’s nice as he glances up at the clear sky.

after a while of jeongguk laying in silence with his eyes closed, he lifts a hand and twirls a lock of taehyung’s orange hair around his finger. it’s a gesture that surprises taehyung because he’s used to jeongguk being rough with him, pushing him into lockers, punching his arms and kneeing him in the stomach when he’s bored, and wrestling him like he’s the one who’s younger when in actuality, jeongguk’s two years younger than him.

but taehyung says nothing.

maybe it’s because he’s used to jeongguk being spontaneous and hard to understand. he’s tried to imagine jeongguk as an open book and the pages are there for him to read, but somehow he always misses what’s in between the lines so he only catches on to what’s blatantly obvious.

it’s just another thing taehyung pretends to hate about jeongguk, but truthfully, he thinks he would be bored if jeongguk always made sense.

jeongguk’s hand moves from taehyung’s hair to the tie of his school uniform and runs along the length of it. the action draws taehyung’s attention and after another second, taehyung knows jeongguk is planning something because of the way his grip tightens at the end, arm twisting slightly as he wraps it around his fist.

and then he suddenly yanks on the tie, pulling taehyung down in an abrupt motion that causes his heart to feel as if it’s been propelled into his throat.

when jeongguk captures his mouth, taehyung’s eye snap shut because he expects, again, the roughness he’s used to from the other boy. but this kiss is so entirely different.

taehyung feels like he’s melting into jeongguk, lips molded to fit against jeongguk’s perfectly. jeongguk is gentle, kissing him sweetly and nipping at his bottom lip so he can have more access to taehyung’s mouth. taehyung easily gives in and moves one hand from his side to tangle in jeongguk’s hair.

it’s not like it’s taehyung’s first kiss, but kissing has never felt like this before, like his skin is on fire where jeongguk’s fingers tickle the back of his neck, and like his heart is going to explode and he’s seeing stars at the back of his eyelids.

he thinks kissing jeongguk might be something he can’t even pretend to hate.

once the kiss ends, taehyung leans back and stares at the sky again. he feels jeongguk let out a deep breath and grow more comfortable in his lap and a lopsided grin spreads across his face.

“why did you kiss me?” he asks, but he knows the answer. he wonders if it’s always been this obvious, something he could have read clearly in the lines of jeongguk’s book if he hadn’t been so busy trying to read the fine print.

he guesses it has, with the way taehyung has always been the one jeongguk came to in every situation, from skipping class to just hanging out and doing nothing, the way taehyung’s the one jeongguk has never been afraid to tell everything to, and the way jeongguk’s eyes are now shrinking into crescents, wrinkles in the corners as he smiles at taehyung and laughs.

“what do you think, dumbass?” is the affectionate reply.
